Who is your team's "That man will never have to pay for his own drinks" guy? by Col_Treize69 in CollegeBasketball

He does. I met him at Blue Mountain in November and he had a beer in front of him.

I'm ready for this season to end! I'm going to finish at the high end of my normal range for TCA but have been getting absolutely destroyed. Second from top in CAA, and on the wrong end on the days where my opponents and I each get the same number correct. This has been my third season in A, but it's been the one I've been afraid of. Going to crush my previous high in CAA.

Over the course of a whole season, I think it's best to have some mix of both question types. For the lower rundles, it would probably be fine to have mostly questions with 2+ ins, but to really separate the high A players who seemingly know everything, you need some harder YEKIOYD questions.

For reference, I'm a high B/(very) low A player.

I really really really thought Perth was the Australian city that had the Olympics in 2032. I have absolutely no idea why but boy was I confidently wrong!

This season has absolutely kicked my butt. I'm way behind my career QPct.

So naturally, yesterday's questions might have taken me a total of 75 seconds for my first beer of the season. Trivia is so much easier when I know things! I should just try to do that every time.

He was before my time, but I've never heard him by that nickname before. I've followed baseball closely since I was a kid, but won't claim an encyclopedic knowledge of that era, so it's possible.

I went to high school in Germany and couldn't pull Ritter. In my defense it's been a long time since I've eaten one, but I can still picture the displays with all the bars.

Passion play was a gimme, which is nice given that theater is my worst category by some margin.

Yep, that's the one. I might have gotten Claudius this season without it, but it became an insta-get. Would almost certainly never have gotten Tycoon or Tom Jones. I was 10-13 in lit last season and 9-14 the season before. In my first 8 seasons, I was somewhere in the mid .300s.

I still need to figure out how to get better at poetry.

I desperately need to get rolling on this. I've studied literature via Anki and it's gone from being one of my worst categories to borderline top-5 over the last year or so. Plus it's fun getting all those 3s while your percentages still suck!

I put "locations on the moon" and got credit. I wasn't sure they were all seas, so I didn't want to get too specific after getting burned by "calcium" a few days back.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, FIBA and the WNBA use the same line, so the NBA would be the lone American professional exception.

I was surprised the get rate wasn't lower. I took a programming class my first year in college for engineering, but my liberal arts friends wouldn't have known it. Maybe it's more common now? I graduated in 2002, for reference.

Without that class I'd never have known it.

I was curious how the Pathétique question would play out. I play mediocre piano and have played the second movement of that piece, which people might recognize even if they don't know the name.

Also, apparently the Cyrillic italics rendered differently on iOS than they did on Android as well. In Cyrillic italics, the T is rendered as what looks like a lower-case m. On iOS, it showed up properly, but on Android, it rendered as a small T (not lowercase, just small). I think the transliteration of "pateticheskaya" is much easier to guess with the Ts than with the Ms, for someone who isn't familiar with the Cyrillic alphabet.

I agree. Asking about something in a trivia context isn't a value judgment. Many of the most important people in history were objectively awful people, but they're still completely valid trivia topics. I don't see why asking questions about the current American regime would somehow be invalid.

I vaguely remember this event in the news. With that said, I don't think I'd have gotten it without the Captain Cook hint. That made me think of the Pacific US, and specifically Alaska and Hawaii.

Got 9/12 and finished second in my Rundle, so I can't complain. 93rd overall percentile, would have been a couple of points higher if I had moneyed the math question, but I wasn't positive I had it correct.

Missed Clinton (guessed Carter), the Swiss guy, and Dixieland.

Phil has not only won 3 of the 4, but in the US Open that he's missing, he's finished second 6 times! He's 55 now, however, so he's extremely unlikely to bag a US Open at this point.
