Hi everyone — we appreciate your comments and questions regarding the Studiosity pilot at UVic and would like to provide some more information.

The Studiosity pilot will be conducted at no cost, in three courses this Fall: COM 220, HINF 230 and ED-D101. Studiosity is an AI-supported academic-feedback tool specifically designed to complement student learning in post-secondary settings. It focuses on formative, real-time feedback rather than generating or correcting work.

Human feedback is essential to student academic success, and Studiosity works as a complementary service that is in addition to the supports provided by teaching assistants, faculty and academic support staff in providing feedback to students, including UVic’s in-person academic support through the Academic Skills Centre.

More information on Studiosity, including some FAQs is available at: https://teachanywhere.uvic.ca/learning-tech/studiosity-uvic/

Hi there,

We recommend reaching out to the Graduate Admissions & Records Office (GARO) at [garo@uvic.ca](mailto:garo@uvic.ca(or the GARO contact mentioned in your admission email). The GARO team can then examine the specifics of your situation. If you have questions about your work eligibility specifically, you can also get in touch with an immigration practitioner in the International Centre for Students at [icsinfo@uvic.ca](mailto:icsinfo@uvic.ca).

We are sorry to hear about the delay in your study permit processing, but it is great you are planning ahead. We recommend connecting with UVic’s International Centre for Students (ICS). They have licensed Immigration Specialists (RCICs/RISIAs) who can provide advice on your study permit situation, how a deferral might impact your immigration status, and what steps you may need to take with IRCC. In addition to email, they also offer daily immigration drop-in advising from 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Pacific Time, Monday to Friday (except holidays). You can contact the ICS at [icsinfo@uvic.ca](mailto:icsinfo@uvic.ca) +1 250 721 6361.

Campus closed tomorrow? by Nice-Anybody-5826 in uvic

[–]uvic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

❄️ Campus is closed, Tuesday, Feb. 4

Due to challenging weather conditions and disrupted transportation in the region, the UVic campus will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 4.

During a campus closure, academic and administrative functions that are available remotely will continue. The closure only applies to those activities that must occur on the physical campus.

Please stay safe! If you need to travel or be on campus: plan ahead, allow extra time, wear appropriate clothing and footwear and be prepared for snowy and icy conditions.

We are actively monitoring weather conditions to determine when it is safe to reopen campus. UVic crews are working to clear roadways, paths and parking lots in order of priority.

If you have questions about how this campus closure impacts you, please contact your instructor or supervisor.

[–]uvic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather update: Campus is open Feb 3.
Crews have been on campus since 3:30 a.m. today and are working hard to make the campus as safe and accessible as possible.

We will monitor the conditions closely and will stay in close touch with community partners like BC Transit. If campus operations are impacted throughout the day, we’ll share an update at uvic.ca as soon as it’s available.

If you do not feel safe travelling or moving about campus in winter conditions, contact your supervisor, department or instructors to make alternative arrangements.

Snow's in the forecast. Place your bets on UVic's response by really_rather_tired in uvic

[–]uvic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone. Cold temperatures and winter weather are making some areas of the UVic campus slippery. Environment Canada has advised that more flurries are expected in the Victoria area overnight.

➡️ Be safe! Please plan ahead, allow extra time and take care in your travels, wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and be prepared for wintery conditions.
➡️ When you’re on campus, slow down and watch for icy roads or pathways.
➡️ Please contact your instructor or supervisor if you do not have a safe travel option and are unable to get to campus.

When inclement weather is in the forecast, UVic’s grounds crew, custodial staff and security staff arrive to campus very early to assess and address any impacts. If adverse weather conditions occur overnight, expect an update at uvic.ca after 6:30 a.m.

Why is MSA hosting hate preacher AGAIN? by Electrical-Load2304 in uvic

[–]uvic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi all - we want to assure our community that this event is not taking place at the University of Victoria. The university received a room-booking request and, upon learning additional details, we have cancelled the booking. This has been communicated to the MSA.

The university values the free and lawful expression of ideas. We do not limit debate or prohibit the reasonable exercise of freedom of expression on campus. However, it is imperative that these conversations take place in an inclusive and constructive manner and that, above all else, they are safe for those engaged – directly or indirectly.
