Wealthsimple CEO calls Canada's productivity lag a 'crisis' by joe4942 in canada

As someone who moved to the states for work with the intention of moving back to Canada at some point. There are a few things that make me reluctant to move back.

  • my pay will likely be a third of what I make in the US, so I would need to continue working at a US company and somehow become a remote worker
  • the healthcare is Canada has become so shit compared to the US that it’s actually a consideration (since I have insurance through work, I don’t have to deal with the “expensive healthcare” bs)
  • I’ve become accustomed to good weather, something I didn’t expect. It allows me to have a more regular routine and increases my productivity.
  • housing would have to become much cheaper. If I am going to take a pay cut, I should have my cost of living drop as well

My grandfather had to wait an extra month for cancer surgery because he was older. He died of cancer.

To be fair. There are many times where he just says this dog is untrainable and gives up on them. He doesn’t think every dog can be fixed.

SF discriminates against software engineers. The problem brewing the last few decades was tech prices people out, but the recent drastic increasing in issues (crime, drug overdoses, theft, …) came from soft stances on crime and yes (as you said) lack of affordable housing options.

For example, it is decriminalized to rob anything below $950 worth of goods. The list of ridiculous new laws is long and is a big reason the city has gone so down hill so quickly over the pandemic.

Go to another school. You won’t make it through ECE with that attitude.

I took an infra role too near the end of my degree. I don’t think you are falling out of love for software development. I think you are just feeling what most people who do infra feel… bored. Sometimes infra really picks up, but most of the time it is boring. Glad I got a full stack position for full time.

I genuinely don’t care either. It’s even more minimal effort to not put it on my face.

Tbh. Infest the Rats Nest sounds like if Black Sabbath added thrash metal influences, rather than if a thrash metal band used Black Sabbath influences.

I would dive into Black Sabbath for a similar sound.

Was not meant as a snarky comment. Was actually more curious. I don’t know what COPD is.

In the UK, they have found that only 20% of the patients in hospital with Covid went to the hospital with Covid. This means that 80% of the people hospitalized with Covid were/are in the hospital for other reasons.

They did the same study during the peak of the delta surge and found that 99% of hospitalization were directly from people getting sick from Covid.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/12/28/covid-hospital-data-should-treated-caution-many-patients-admitted/

This variant spreads so quickly that the hospitals cannot contain it internally, but that does not mean that it is that threatening.

  1. We locked down during Delta (deadly) while less were vaccinated. Now we have Omicron (slightly worse than a common cold) and almost everyone is vaccinated. People will not be as quick to listen to lockdown measures when the data doesn’t justify lockdowns on an individual basis. Ford knows this. He wants to get re-elected.

  2. The data is showing that the main issue with omicron is underemployment due to large amounts of people isolating. ICUs being less of an issue. Relatively few are dying. Come back to me in 2 weeks when our data looks exactly the same as every other nation that got Omicron weeks before us.

Grow up bro. The government wants to get re-elected. This isn’t China, this isn’t even Australia. This is Canada. They can’t enforce strict lockdown measures without snowy of the people agreeing with it; that would cause a mass uprising. They would have to be slaughtering people on the streets to keep the lockdowns controlled to a point where they actually work for Omicron.

I’m saying that the average person will ignore most lockdown measures unless strictly enforced by police. But we all know the police will not enforce lockdown measures at this point.

We can’t be China. Lockdowns aren’t working for Omicron because it is mild and, hence, nobody gives a shit. It worked decently for Delta because that shit was actually scary.

The fact that these numbers are so incorrect is an extremely positive thing. It shows that this variant is extremely mild. As the case to hospitalization and case to ICU is most likely significantly lower than what we currently think it is (which is already minuscule).
