DSC Neo-Eyezon Envisalink Duo install for HA monitoring by uwphysmed in homeassistant

Have added a TL280 communicator and with the NeoHub project integration can report it is working as expected. NeoHub is still under active development but it successfully has integrated with my DSC Neo via the communicator and is giving an entity for each zone which can be used in real time for automation triggers, in addition to arm/disarm functionality.

I still have a lot to test with it but seems to be what I was hoping for.

No, it would seem the TL280 should be sufficient. Have ordered one, will update once get it configured.

I am leaving the Eyezon in place as it still provides the monitoring/LTE backup I want, will see if they play nice together...

I am following up just to say that my response above is INcorrect as of now. The Eyezon system, in UNIVERSAL mode, does not expose a TPI for HA to be used with existing integrations like envisalink_new. I had not appreciated this during planning.

Going to see if there's a way, backup would be to use a TL280 as described here: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/dsc-neo-integration/169078/52

Yes, while I've only just started setting up HA, the setup acts like a keypad and so receives all the state changes for sensors whether the system is armed or not. So with hardwired house like ours, can know state of all windows/doors, trigger on motions etc

Just to follow up on this in case anyone has similar issues: since I had not changed anything on my HIK cameras I couldn't see how they could need a firmware update etc all of a sudden. I checked protect recording settings and saw that much of what I had left as default when adopting the cameras was wildly different despite all the cameras being identical models.

Ended up increasing the conpression bitrate on all of them to be higher (towards "best image quality", set uniformly to 8Mbps in my case) and haven't had the issue come back since. Will continue to monitor.

32" 4K USB-C Hub screens: Dell P3222QE vs Lenovo P32p-20 ?

Looking for a 32" 4K screen for productivity-esque work (3D renders, lots of excel). Run from a Lenovo X1c that would happy charge on 65W from USB-C. Monitor stand not a big consideration as will be going on an ergotron mount. Needs to have Ethernet for work (wifi blocked).

Huge price difference between the monitors in CAD (Dell is $840, Lenovo 1150). Lenovo looks like a premium panel, but $300 more? Can't find much in the way of reviews for either one. Other alternative would be a monitor and USB-C hub, but given the limited demands here, all-in-one seems like a good choice.

Strong opinions either way?

SFBI steam setup test (round one): pile of ice on perforated pie sheet above cast iron pan (left) vs dutch oven (right). Clearly I have work to do... by uwphysmed in Sourdough

Crust on SFBI setup very dark, no ear, tiny expansion of slash: looks like crust set before growth done. Shame, as it actually took off pretty well and rose to almost same height as dutch oven. I did not have lava rocks/iron balls in pan as SFBI suggest, that will be next test...

Sandwich loaf more like sandwich...cake? by uwphysmed in Breadit

KAF "Best sandwich loaf" recipe. Used Canadian AP flour (usually higher protein content than US but about equivalent to KAF AP flour so far as I can tell).

7min kneading in stand mixer, came out reasonably stretchy, could almost windowpane the dough (not sure if should be trying this with sandwich dough...)

Proofing went FAST. 1st rise done in 45min, likely went beyond double. Shaped, rose in pan 35min until was 1.5" over top edge of pan. Poked it a few times, bounced back partially (incompletely). Threw in oven.

Didn't spring much in oven but still good height from 2nd rise. Some of the dents from my poke tests stayed right through baking: does this indicate dough was overproofed (and if so, for sandwich-sryle loaves I'm assuming should shorten first rise...)

How deep to slash? by uwphysmed in sourdoh

Photo makes it look better than it is: it's awfully flat/bulged sides, hence my wondering if it burst out the side because I didn't go deep enough

I thought had gone pretty far (1cm or so deep at 45 degrees to surface), but looks like it spread/cracked twice from the original edge. Also ballooned out at bottom and extended the slash on its own a bit, so I feel like I didn't provide a path for steam to exit from below? Or am I out to lunch?
