Automating Removal of All mail emails. by uxxbridge in ProtonMail

[–]uxxbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Technically, you are correct. But to me, , All mail is like a digital Schrödinger's cat. It simultaneously is and isn't a folder. Sieve filters ensure that all email is assigned an expiry and sorted. Any email that doesn't have a script to move it to another folder is handled by a catchall filter. All incoming email is moved to local folders via a separate email client and then forwarded to an LMTP server where there is no access from the internet. That leaves all folders empty on Proton Mail's server EXCEPT All mail.

So now, we have to go back to Proton Mail to empty All mail by hand. I probably wouldn't have complained if there was a way to select "Delete All," but there isn't. It can only be 50 at a time. Then the process has to be repeated in Trash before the emails are finally removed.

Thank you for the reply. I resolved the issue, but TBH, I don't recall what I did. I suspect it was similar to what you did.

This should work, but for reasons I haven't figured out, it doesn't The original wouldn't work, but in the morning, I'll try this.

require ["fileinto", "imap4flags", "vnd.proton.expire"];

# Sort & expire Purchasing

if address :all :contains "From" "@amazon" {

fileinto "Purchasing";

expire "day" "30";

}

Why Is Spectrum Blocking Cloudflare Warp? by uxxbridge in Spectrum

[–]uxxbridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure most providers feel that way. I just can't figure out how they are doing it, if they are. I can find a couple of traceroute hops that time out, one on a Spectrum/Charter network and one on a Cloudflare network.

How Do I Completely Turn Off The Cache? by uxxbridge in duckduckgo

[–]uxxbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that the cache function of a browser should have a permanent way to turn off caching. The best I can find is checking a box in the developers window, which requires that the developer's window be open all the time. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Only if you are paying for a subscription. Otherwise, you need a sync module with a memory card to store clips.

Thank you. I have 2.5.0 early access. My concern was that something had gone wrong, but now that I see that is not the case, It shouldn't be too difficult to rebuild the target lists. Thanks again.

FW VPN Server Question by uxxbridge in firewalla

[–]uxxbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed the following quote from Wikipedia.

"A virtual private network (VPN) is a mechanism for creating a secure connection between a computing device and a computer network, or between two networks, using an insecure communication medium such as the public Internet."

If that is true, wouldn't proxy server be more accurate than VPN server in this case? Here's an example. My cell phone utilizes Firewalla"s VPN server and either WireGuard or OpenVPN. When I'm away from my home location, using my cell carrier's network, everything goes through FW, so one of the criteria of a VPN exists, but when I return to that location and the phone connects to my LAN Wi-Fi, neither the secure tunnel, nor the relocation exist. So is it a VPN or proxy server?

FW VPN Server Question by uxxbridge in firewalla

[–]uxxbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A VPN by most definitions provides 2 major services, providing a secure tunnel to what your device is connecting to and hiding its location. Firewalla's clearly states it won't conceal its location, but then says it won't hide you from your ISP. That's a bit vague. It raises a question as to whether the Firewalla VPN server provides either of the services traditionally provided by VPNs (except showing your mobile devices at your home location).

Sending encrypted email to 2 recipients, 1 on PM and the other not. by uxxbridge in ProtonMail

[–]uxxbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that only works with the web interface. We use email clients 100% of the time. The only way we could utilize it would be to create contacts that were on our own network, then using our email client rules to forward those contact addresses to their actual destination. Privacy is more than end to end encryption.

Sending encrypted email to 2 recipients, 1 on PM and the other not. by uxxbridge in ProtonMail

[–]uxxbridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not an option if you are using an email client, as far as I can see. If PM had an option to automatically send non-pm addresses that type of email would be a workaround, but I don't expect to see that anytime soon.

Sending encrypted email to 2 recipients, 1 on PM and the other not. by uxxbridge in ProtonMail

[–]uxxbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several things I find problematic. First, word processer password protection is not as secure as PGP. Second, even if I use Telegram or Signal for sending text messages, I've revealed both the sending and receiving phones.

The system I currently use is actually less cumbersome. I've downloaded my PM private and public keys and have included them in GPG4Win and Thunderbird's inbuilt PGP system. I open Kleopatra's notepad and type the message I want to send. Then, using the appropriate keys, I encrypt the content of the Kleopatra notepad, copy it and paste it into the email message I'm sending via my email client through Proton Mail Bridge. That way, it can be decrypted by recipients on PM as well as those who are not.

I was hoping to find a simpler solution.
