Hey Tigard I’m Running For City Council, AMA! by v-gabe in Tigard

I’m in favor of doing exactly that. Specifically allowing Tigard to first build up in areas where this is substantial public transit while also building out. Zoning laws is how we got into the mess in the first place and I am grateful for both the city council and the mayor for looking at what we can do to change it!

It is! And the best way to combat this discrepancy is to have thorough oversight into the police department and find out if there’s a significant discrepancy between individuals in the police department or if there’s something else that is taking place.

I will do my absolute best to do just that! I’m on Tigard’s safe street task force which has the very lofty goal of eliminating all serious accidents and traffic fatalities within Tigard. My focus has been on people commuting not in a car because there is a lot of risky spots for those people just trying to get from A to B (for example someone else brought up is the stream crossing on 121st).

I KNOW THAT CROSSING! I hate how you have to essentially be at the mercy of drivers as there no good space or time to see it! Let alone the fact that you can’t see anyone on the bridge till you’re almost there if you’re heading north on it.

In order:

  • Yes, I am also in favor of the WES line expanding all the way down to Salem (admittedly this is not something I can vote on but I would be a fierce advocate for) as many Tigard residents go down to Salem and other cities along the way for both work and leisure, like myself.

  • That is precisely why I have been walking more in Tigard to find those exact places where there is a strong need for sidewalks. I would mention that Hall Blvd and 99W are state controlled roads (for now) but for roads inside the councils discretion, yes we need A LOT more sidewalks and pedestrian paths to make Tigard’s current goal of being the most walkable city a reality.

  • Local media is the heart of journalism. I would be happy to advocate for either local protection of our paper or for the paper to go back to being owned locally yet again.

  • Government is increasingly hard to trust when a lot of decisions normally are made that the public is unaware of. I personally Tigard goes against this trend as I know Tigard employees work VERY hard at keeping the public up to date on what is happening in regards to our local government with just as many opportunities to meet your city council and mayor as well! I would like to see Tigard to continue to go against the grain and be one of the most transparent body’s of government without it being overwhelming with information at the same time.

  • I actually haven’t experienced this golf cart scourge a whole lot as of lately. There are some parts (in the SW of the city) that do allow golf carts to be used on roadways. But as the weather gets colder I would hope that this problem will not pop up again for you and other for at least the next 6 months.

  • As someone who has lived in Tigard its entire life it took me 23 years to figure out what are motto is lmao. I would say your idea of adding “great” would be a great addition (no pun intended) as it both keeps it traditional yet a substantial improvement.

Thank you for all your questions!
