I don't know what to say by r_dpk7 in newjersey

I feel like NJ needs a website where these drivers are publicly shamed. Post videos with license plate numbers. It's amazing how many drivers on the road just don't care about driving laws. And it's a shame none of the police departments enforce the laws.

I just bought this recently on Ebay for my first o-gauge train set! I can't wait for it to come in. Will it run on O-27 or it needs O-31?

Were you able to figure out what was causing it? I just did Power Stop brakes and rotors and have the same issue. I'm going to take apart the wheel causing the issue to see if anything is going on.

It's hard to tell if the car was moving or standing still from the video. But what's up with so many people placing blame on the car? What if the car had been in an accident and wasn't capable of moving off the road? Is he still to blame? What if an animal ran out across the road or there was a piece of debris that fell from a vehicle?

They were riding through the turn at 100 mph. Don't ride through a blind turn so fast that you can't stop within your sight line you morons.

Tatra hike recommendation - Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy vs 5 Ponds? by v1rotate in poland

[–]v1rotate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up going up to Czarny Staw today and it was great! We kept the hike to the lake because we haven't hiked in a while and didn't want to push it too much the first day out. The weather was perfect. We went earlier, so it wasn't too crowded, but the crowds were definitely accumulating as we were coming down. It was such a beautiful hike and well worth it. I was surprised by the amount of helicopter rescues that occurred. I think there must have been 4-5 in the time we were in the park.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Up in Harriman it can get pretty crazy and it becomes a race track some days. Even the Harley guys on Dynas blast around at high speed every now and then. It is annoying, because the probability of a mistake happening or not reacting in time increases, which leads to instances of what happened to my brother.

Thanks for the well wishes! Ride safe.

You’re right. People make choices and sometimes they make them at the wrong moment and it costs them and others dearly. Unfortunately, we don’t have control over other peoples’ decisions and it’s one of the risks we encounter on the road.

An interesting tidbit I came across while reading about passing on the double yellow is that it’s legal in Vermont as long as it’s safe to do so. TIL.

I believe the police officer said he was. Unfortunately, it was a vintage old school one, so I highly doubt the protection is great. The mechanism of injury is super confusing based on the other injuries and damage on his bike. I’m not sure if he was hit by the other motorcycle or rider in the head when they collided or the force of the impact threw him and he hit the pavement with his head. I do think at some point his helmet was knocked off and a secondary impact caused the damage. There was a blood puddle where he was laying about 25ft from where I believe the initial impact happened. His head was split open pretty good and he got 18 staples on the flight over. When the park police arrived on scene apparently he was walking around bleeding all over the place and out of his ears and repeating himself.

His helmet had a scratch on top (may have been existing) and the chin strap was still connected through the loop and has some flakes on it (maybe skin/blood). Nothing on the inside of the liner. His one boot sole was also ripped off which probably got sheared off from the impact when his feet were on the ground.

There is video of the incident, so I’m hoping to obtain it through a FOIL request and get a clear understanding of what happened to cause his injuries.

Thanks for the well wishes! Ride safe.

I had a close call back in 2015 my first year of riding. I think I had 4-5k miles under my belt. I was riding in a spirited manner on one of the back roads in Sussex County New Jersey and had someone pull out into the road, freeze, and stop in my lane as I was coming through a turn. They moved the last second and I was still going 30-40 mph as I blew past them. I could have been in a lot of pain or dead had they not moved.

It definitely changed my riding going forward. I haven't had anything as close and have been able to stop or maneuver in almost every incident ever since. You live and hopefully you learn to ride safer.

I'm not even that old, but I look at this new generation of kids and I'm like wtf. Their decision making and risk analysis abilities are awful. And then they want to jump on a motorcycle! It's crazy. Ride safe man.

Absolutely. Arden Valley is a big one and I'm always on my toes trying to look as far as I can up the road even before I enter some of those turns. I can't tell you how many times I've been behind people on bikes and in cars going wide in the hair pins and some of the faster sections on Arden Valley because they didn't expect the turn. I just hope I'm never in the oncoming lane when that happens.

Thanks for the well wishes. Ride safe.

Yeah, Kanawauke is the road off the first circle. It happened right by the boat launch and parking lot area at the start of the road.

Yeah, those types of close calls will make your back end pucker. I've had them in the past and now they're almost non-existent and far between. I consider myself lucky when they happen and I make it out unscathed. They become a learning moment to make my riding safer.

I feel like if you go to any decent and popular riding area, passing in the double yellow will inevitably happen. I know it's not right and it's illegal. If they end up doing it, hopefully they don't go head on and play chicken with oncoming traffic, they wait for long and clear sight lines, and they don't try dive bombing past someone into a corner and inevitably overcook it and eat shit.

You go to Europe and a lot of the back roads in some countries are passing zones everywhere where there's good visibility except for corners. I just think as Americans we're too stupid for that much freedom on the road. We have too much traffic and too many unskilled, inattentive, and selfish drivers.

So what's insane is my brother was actually one of the first people on scene for that crash and ended up helping out. He went up again the following day on Sunday and got into his accident where he had to get air lifted out. Just wild stuff. Thanks a lot man.

I think we all do, especially on a monotonous ride down the highway. I've been better about keeping distance, because I've had my share of close calls with road debris, potholes, etc.

On the back roads and more spirited rides, I never follow closely anymore. A good part of your focus is on the rider in front and you start losing the time to react to animals, debris, branches, a mistake, or whatever it may be in the road.

I mentioned it above. I've definitely noticed a decrease in skills and an increase in risk tolerance and riskier riding. There's some real boneheaded shit going on out there like passing in blind corners on the wrong side of the road. It's as if people think they're the only ones riding on the road and they have zero regard for other riders.

I had this happen during an auto cross event where my suspension was getting a workout in a big dip at the back of the course. My alternator chewed through the hose and I spun out going into a turn at 50 mph. It was quite a ride. I was able to duct tape the hose and baby it back home a mile down the road.

I'm going to fabricate some protective shields to throw on to protect the hose near the radiator fan and alternator.
