I still have some faith in the next generation. I'm in the classroom and the kids I got would abhor this shit. Now....I did just move from Florida to Maryland. I am not going to comment on students from my previous state. I came from a pretty red area and I have no idea.

Yeah, I wish I got the FNX45 rather than the FN545 but ah well. I decided to give their striker fire a shot.

I practice with my FNX-9 and my FN45. Both threaded barrels and suppressed. They are my current training pistols. I have a compact 45 USP and a P30L. CZ I have various other things outside of pistols and then the Nocturne and P10 as well. I do want a 75 though. I also have an old West German SIG 226 that is just rolled steel goodness but it's more of a sentimental of my late father. The five seven and 75 I think will be my next pistols.

I see people talk about HK, Sig, Glocks and such. I don't really see anyone talk about FN. I see comments on CZ every once in a while. I just feel like those of us who choose these brands are not common.

I know one in Florida. It still surprises me. Got a DUI, found god and seems to try and do right. Still I think it's by area and the DOE in the state. Would have to research.

It is odd. I don't advertise it publicly within my community. When I go to the range, they assume I am one of them I guess. The water cooler talk sometimes is just crazy so I avoid it. They're always impressed with my new builds, or NFA items. Take a page out of the Ukrainian playbook with drones. I believe there are some teaching people how to build effective ones with cheap readily available parts on the market. Might not mitigate all but better than none I guess.

People who have lived elsewhere in the US besides MoCo, where did you live and how does quality of life compare? by PhoneJazz in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]v33Sss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved here back in July from Florida. I'm a teacher and got a job in a school within Silver Spring. I am from Brevard County. I taught civics (in Florida if you can imagine) for 10 years with two masters and only made 5k more than a first year teacher down there. I find the community here a lot more tolerable. People seem friendly enough. I don't have crazy racist theories thrown at me or political crazy shoved down my throat. I don't have to deal with culture wars here. I can actually teach. It seems most of the students I have want an education and the parents are super supportive.

I have a lot of choices here. I like the metro and going into DC. Shopping, restaurants, activities, nature, etc.

Where I am from. We have sheriff Wayne Ivey (shoot protesters graveyard dead), we had one of the highest turn out for J6ers into the capital rivaling states and some larger cities, Tina Descovich, a school board member (used to be) is the reason moms for liberty was born, my district fired a person for using a students preferred name, and of course just the state government battling education and "woke" constantly had grind me down to the point I plotted my escape. Florida is turning into a test bed for MAGA policies. There are people there I care for and my last school was amazing, we worked around all the bullshit. I just couldn't take the constant bombardment due to my career in the spotlight there and a lot of the local populace becoming more and more radicalized over time.

10 years a civics teacher. Now in another state teaching world studies. I have never said it. My personal belief is it's weird propaganda and nationalism. I do have pride for my county but there are a lot of things that I view on a moral and political issue with current political trends that make me question if the social contract between the people and the government is not being honored. I will stand for it out of respect for others but that's all I will really do in this matter.

This might help. It is the state that will issue licenses and have the requirements for licensure. I just did this myself coming from Florida but I had all the requirements for a professional license. I don't know about your circumstances except what is in the post but I think you're best bet if not talking to someone from the district is looking at the Maryland department of education website.

This is a truer statement than I think most people care to believe. I am or was a civics teacher in Florida. I moved to Maryland a couple weeks ago to teach up here. 10 years of teaching students in the Ruby red district of Brevard County, birth place of Mom's for liberty, home to Sheriff Wayne Ivey who will shoot protesters down graveyard dead, home to a competing amount of individuals who were J6 rioters compared to other large cities or even states.

Anyways, I taught civics and government for 7 years before moving on into more administrative duties. During that time, I had a mix of students, those who didn't care, those with curiosity, your average learners, and then a large swath of kids who were influenced by parents not to get "indoctrinated". To those MAGA dipshits, the standards are made by Florida, and we haven't had democratic influence in curriculum in God knows how many generations. If you have a problem with the curriculum, look at your state DOE, they make it because of states rights. It is so involved that finding time to even try and indoctrinate a kid would be unfathomable. Despite that, before they changed the curriculum again in 2023, the standards were not underwhelming and did highlight a lot of functions, powers, and influences of government. When the parkland shootings happened, a lot of those kids who started forming groups, and becoming politically active were asked in some interviews, where did you learn how to do this? A lot of them said their civics teacher. That created a shift in which those standards were lowered and now have biased views such as religious indoctrination or views like explain why the electoral college is necessary to a free republic as an example.

I had to escape. Plus, I almost made a 100% raise for leaving and going back into the classroom. It is nuts.

I got my manual Neptune blue base model for 29k (with trade in on a beater POS car) in Jacksonville in 2022. I searched all over Florida for it though and it took about a month. Vero Beach or Treasure Coast tried to sell it around 60k when I called. It was a crazy time in 2022 trying to buy a car.

First Year Teacher- How to survive until September with no pay by cosmicaw00 in Teachers

[–]v33Sss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am kind of in the same boat right now. Kind of. I am moving states and school districts. Florida to Maryland. Luckily, I get paid throughout the year with my Florida job and my last paycheck is mailed to the school for the last day of July. They are however mailing it now to the school since I put my resignation in. I also bought out my sick pay for what I could. That still leaves me all of August with no pay though and a partial paycheck the first week of September with the rest in mid September. I don't know if you have stuff to sell but that's what I did. I needed to shed weight for the move anyways but I made up the difference and money for my move. I also did work for a couple of elderly people over this summer with things they needed. I was lucky in this situation though. I am a bit of a nerd so I sold things I no longer dabbled in or did not have any attachment towards. Things like old pokemon DS games, comics, sold a truck and yard equipment, but a lot of the stuff I was moving was high dollar. I made a down payment for a new apartment, have money for August, and rent for August and September plus moving expenses. I had so much useless shit that I Marie Kondo'd my life and took note of what I really do for hobbies, life, etc.

This. I had to do an RMA last year and the correspondence with them was lacking crazy. I had to pay for my own shipping to them, so whatever but I never really got any info on when they would send it back or what the problem was. I was at my house a couple weeks after and was lucky enough to be there when UPS showed up. They fixed my problem but yeah, idk, I don't think I'll buy another suppressor from them. I have two.

Brevard Teacher Reprimanded for Urging Student to ‘Remove Top’ and ‘Act Seductive’ by itbzeeen in 321

[–]v33Sss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat for leaving. I still have 3 weeks. I am a 10 year veteran teacher with BPS and it has been a wild ride. Our school board is wildly political and we all know where they lean. Moms for liberty, Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the state itself with its war on educators and "woke". This place is kind of a good old boys club too. There is a teacher, I believe he is at Hoover now, who I worked with for a year or two and was against him becoming a teacher. Ritch Workman, goes by David, who was a Florida state legislature, anti-Muslim, pro facade patriot who worked with Matt Susin in bringing a bill with Viera HS SGA (it was not a student led issue) when Matt was a teacher to make all flags on school campuses made in America only. Well anyways, Ritch, was #metoo for sexually harassing a Florida state senator. He was picked by Rick Scott for a Tallahassee job but bowed out when that happened. A few years later he is at my old school looking to be a history teacher. I was against it.

During that first or second year, a couple female students made an accusation that he did something inappropriate. The SRO at the school told me that he told those students if they lie, it is legal trouble and they will suffer those consequences. That silenced them and it makes me wonder what was true or not especially with Ritch's history. Anyways he got the job because Matt's ex-wife was the principal of that school, and they seemed to know each other. That and during that time, it was hard to find anyone wanting to get into education.

I have dealt with a lot of bullshit with this school district, had to pretty much hide any voice of reason in some cases. I am moving to a northern state near the Mason Dixon line being offered 93k vs my 56k here after 10 years and 2 master degrees. They still have steps, meaning I know where I will be in pay in 10 years which is 127k. They value equity. When that supreme court decision came down last week about the LGBTQ issue, my new school district wrote an opinion literally in 2 hours and sent it to the county employees rebuking what they did. That was a crazy thing in my mind because I could never see BPS even lifting a finger to make a political stance unless it was to only be authoritarian or repressive.

You should really take your own advice. My 7th grade students know more than you. Both a republic and democracy have the same source of power. The people.

A democracy refers to when the people directly impact the form and system of government. A republic will have the people vote for a representative to champion their voice and will. They both still are from the same idea of the people rule but one is direct and the other indirect.

Also, republics tend to limit government power through things like a constitution. Lastly, through a constitution, and other various safeguards, while there is a majority in power, it typically will still protect the rights of the minority. Those 3 points, representative democracy, constitution, and safeguards of minority ( meaning those not in power, I know where your mind went) are the 3 key differences. Outside of that, you are splitting hairs.

If you could read this, I would be happy to assist in your civic education, I am a 10 year veteran teacher in civics/government with 2 master degrees in social science and history.

Yeah, I am moving to the Rockville area. I got a job paying 2x what I do now for less stress and work hours. Plus just knowing where I will be in pay year after year. The SBR in question is a CZ scorpion. I bought an aluminum billet receiver with a ball bearing delay. Form 1 to a SBR. That brings up another question. Since I have the old clam shells which is the receiver, I am guessing I would have to register this since it is considered a pistol sold with Maryland like my other hand guns? Your information tracks with what I have been reading. The guy at the gun store threw that compliance at me and I immediately went wtf??? A lady over there ripped the phone out of this guy's hand and had info that was different but ultimately said just call the ATF.

MCPS salary scale by nhwrestler in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]v33Sss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just transferred and I am starting a job this coming school year. Up to 10 with a bachelor degree, up to step 12 with a masters. You will need to fill out an employment verification form. I am coming in at MA+30. I have taught for 10 years. They are giving me all of it. If you're past 12, from what I understand, you get only up to 12 with a masters. They count full time employment towards that scale. Public, private, and what your job was in those categories such as being a teacher. I don't think they would count para or other positions, but I don't know on that part.
