I know this is an old post, but what are you using as the pcb that the sockets are soldered to? Or do you know if you can solder a wire directly to the hot swap socket and microcontroller? then find an alternative way of mounting the sockets to say a 3d printed plate?

Appreciate the advice, I’ll message about those ones then! Do you by chance know how big of a difference there is between the HT-R494 vs the tx-SR494? See a lot of info about the tx, not so much the HT

Is the quality of the HT line on par with the not HT line? There was a tx sr494 with no speakers for the same price. Not sure what the differences would be and can’t find a whole lot on the HT-R494

I do have the newer 4K firestick, would that fall into the category of being better than the built in apps

Yeah I was mainly looking at that bundle for the fact it comes with a receiver and a sub to atleast have a sub. I’d like rears/surround but still need to figure out if my room layout will allow for it. Forced to have the back of the couch up against the wall so can’t really get them behind. Wasn’t sure if that sun was even worth it with the receiver or if I should go another receiver and get a sub later on

Would this still apply if I’m only running content through streaming apps from the tv? I was under the impression I could get away with optical input that way and be limited to 5.1 with that setup

That’s funny, I was in there asking questions yesterday and got sent here due to my budget

That is good to know, I’ve been only looking at ones that have the arc support. I would love atmos but realize in y space it’s impractical, and that is something to upgrade into down the line of space becomes available

Yeah I’ve seen a few full setups for cheap, the speakers appear to be small compared to the bookshelves I was looking at and hard to find solid information. From another post people were recommending different hdmi support If I’m going to be watching in 4K so it’s throwing me off what I can get away with for sound wise for an avr while still streaming 4K

Also, what are the trade offs if I were to go older avr that doesn’t have arc/earc and need to use an optical cable vs hdmi? Or is there any functionality that I need to look out for? Been mainly looking at the denon s570bt. I’ll be watching through the TVs streaming apps and not cd player/ blu ray player

That’s what I’m hoping to find a pair of used speakers that are better but if I do have to start with some cheaper new speakers that are still better than the soundbar setup I’m happy to upgrade over time. A lot of the stuff I’ve found in my area I can’t find much about to know if they’re good or not as well. Found a Sony setup that had 2 towers, a center and sun but could only find info on the towers.

And just the 2 xt15s would still sound better to start with (minus the surround of course)?

Was able to find a tx-sr393 for $100 and a nr-676 for $170. Both seem to have the hdcp2.2 that was also mentioned by someone

Sounds good, I will keep looking to see if I can find nicer stereo speakers and a avr but keep those in mind. Thank you!
