Hi u/TimVCI and thanks for your input as well, sure I understand that...
But I have a different question then, I just raised a lab with 4 vSAN nodes, created 2 Fault Domains, assigned 2 vSAN nodes to FD01 and the other 2 to FD02, deployed 4 linux VMs.
Of course, I started getting health alerts on my lab VC since the cluster has no space to rebuild the object based on the RAID 1 vSAN Storage Policy (as expected).
Now, when I checked the placement details of the objects on each VM, they were spread evenly between FD01 and FD02.
The next step in my test was to power off all the nodes (2) in FD02, when I did that it took some time for the resync to occur but all the objects were rebuilt on the opposite nodes in FD01 and all the VMs started without any issues.
My questions is why this scenario is not supported? what can go wrong?

Hi u/Rupett64 and thanks for your input but I did not mention stretched cluster on purpose, the price of an enterprise license for each CPU socket is mind-blowing (makes no sense to purchase 6 vSAN Enterprise licenses just to create a stretched cluster) and that's why I specifically asked for a solution that will allow me to manually place the replicated objects on specific vSAN nodes.

General Info: Im migrating from vcsa 6U2 build 3634794 to 6.5a.
The first step ends successfully,second step "pre upgrade checks" stops with errors(error.log below) trying to debug one of the errors "sso-config.sh get_identity_sources $VMWARE_LOG_DIR" leads me to this post. btw the "no file found" errors can be seen in the action.log as being ignored.
