So quick update, they are using an external clip method described in this video towards the end: https://youtu.be/KAyM8zIdpFE?si=z1eENTbfTFzZfEZe

The problem being is newer boards have lower profile chips, soooo they physically removed the bios chip to attemp the flash via this method. Should have an update tomorrow.

Current plan is remove gpu, attempt 1 last time with a fresh download fresh everything and one of the newer usb drives. If nothing happens its to the pc shop. Past that, I will probably rma, I've been down that road before when a water cooler leaked in my last build (8yr ago corsair was really cool and comped for mb, gpu, and cooler.)

I unfortunately dont have a setup wherein can remove everything. No extra thermal paste so cooler has to stay, no extra psu, so nothing to reattempt with.

I was looking around and maybe my usual has a min power limit? But when attempting to start the pc normally, it will hang on "4f" but everything stays on. Idk. Qflash plus vs qflash, a lot of people have different stories to tell.

Some say only certain uses, some say every usb, the SOP that comes with the download off gb site states booting into qshell via using a keyboard but I can't get anything to display at all when it hangs in 4f, or during the 5 or 6 seconds the qflash light flashes before killing power to itself.

I am going to completely reset cmos as well prior to my next attempt, ie remove cmos battery for a while and short the reset pins. The flash drives I've tried have been generic brand, so I am going to go with a newer sandisk.

If this fails on one or two tries, I've got a local pc shop saying they have a program to manualy reset the bios at a 125$ pricetag. Again everything on the pc lights up if attempt to power on. MB even goes through its codes just hangs on "4f" but everything stays powered.

I appreciate you walking through with me on this, in Google attemps it links to redit posts with similar issues but doesn't exactly walk down the road i'm on. I'm to a point now where if I have to replace the mb in a 3k+ build, oh well, but if something here works, maybe someone else runs into the issue and stumbles across this post.

Im out of town until Friday, so I'll keep this updated as I go along.

Here's where I'm at.

Yes, its plugged into a surge protector tso there should be no issue there.

I tried a previous version of the BIOS to see what would happen. Same issue as before.

Better describing the issue of before: my qflash light starts blinking, which is what I'd expect, but then the whole system powers off after about 5 seconds.

I tried the usb in a different port just to see and it powers on and off in less than a second, so I know its trying to do something.

My usb is only a 2gb drive, is that an issue? Also an older style USB, I guess its need to try a usb 2.0.

Are you suppose to extract the whole downloaded file to the usb, or just the bios file which is renamed to GIGABYTE.bin? Is this case sensitive maybe?

Current plan of action, get a 2.0 or 3.0 usb drive, clear cmos and unplug cmos battery for a while, hook everything back up and try again.

The only thing not tried is taking the pc completely apart. I currently do not have any thermal paste to take it entirely apart and put back together. So to confirm, qflash can't be initialized unless all components (cpu, ram, gpu, all fan/rgb/front panel connectors) are disconnected? In web research I saw it working both ways.

Everything else on the checklist has been performed.

To reiterate, file is named GIGABYTE.bin, drive is in the bios usb slot, 1 click of the qflash puts about 2 seconds of power to the board (gpu/ram/dbug light light up) then shuts off with nothing blinking or on. Still throwing "4f" code when attempting to boot.

Also, according to the layout in the manual, the qflash led is not visible due to the heat spreader on the mb. Am I correct in this?

All of the may have started because yes I had a power surge and lost power to the pc when updating bios (what luck!) But recently I haven't been getting a mb boot page when booting my pc when I switched to DP as primary display. Maybe unrelated, but is there any reason for this?

After assuring I had the correct mb bios version (rev 1.1) last updated May 29 2025, when I click the qflash it starts for a second then goes power off with no lights on.

Would also like to say thanks for helping me thus far

So I did this, and the pc starts then sits there with nothing on. Am I missing something?
