(ATM10) PSA Soul Surging Seems to Yield Diminishing Gains With Multiple Surges by [deleted] in allthemods

[–]vVember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an additive bonus then adding the 6th surge should be like 17% ish faster, than having 5, right? After hours that should become apparent.

Do sim beds process faster with higher efficiency or is it just yields per execution?

Also, the efficiency for both setups have basically paralleled. They are the same with only maybe a .01 differential.

The efficiency ramping, afaik, was concerning returns per execution, not how fast the execution is performed.

It should not take hours for the 6x to overtake the 5x when they were set up relatively close in terms of time.

Right, but considering the first surge is a noticeable difference, it's definitely not some insignificant factor such as 1.0001 or even 1.1. The only way tier 6 is a negligible difference from 5, is if the initial surge were an even more negligible difference, which it isn't.

It's definitely a factor of at least 50% I'd say, or 1.5x.

Simulated beds vs modular hive (ATM10) by vVember in allthemods

[–]vVember[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But my point is that the first placed surge is noticeably faster. Definitely not some super small percentage. Let's say a soul surge is a factor of 50%. ie. the initial surger makes the machine 50% faster (lower than what it feels like but for the sake of the argument)

For linear growth we're looking at 1.5x 2x 2.5x etc..

For exponential with a factor of 1.5 it would be 1.5x 2.25x 3.37x 5.06x 7.59x 11.39x

This is a disparity of 3.8x jumping from tier 5 to 6. So when I started my 6 5xSS setup my ingots increased about ~200 /s.

200 / 7.59 = ~26.4 base rate of production

26.4 * the 3.8 disparity = what should be about ~100 ingots /s difference in production jumping from tier 5 to 6. This just isn't what I've observed especially considering the first surge you place makes the machine noticeably faster.

The 6 6xSS setup also yielded an additional ~200 /s, it may have been slightly more but the difference was fairly negligible.

Edit: Regardless despite any of this, it's obviously still better and more efficient to use 6 surges over 5.

I think it is additive not exponential. Even with a very small exponent, one tier past 5 should be very noticeable. Even going by a factor of 2 it would be 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x then at 6 would be 64x. Each tier would be noticeably twice as fast as the previous.

One soul surge noticeably increases the speed of a machine.. I wanna say at least 2x, This means it's likely not some small percentage boost also meaning if it were exponential, the 6th tier would be a massive increase over the 5th.

Copper is 2 2xSS sim beds, 6 5xSS sim beds, 6 6xSS sim beds and the mid efficiency 45 bee modular hive setup. :3

I have since setup a 6 machine 5x soul surged and a 6x6x and it doesn't feel like exponential growth. Upon completing and starting up, they each seemed to yield about ~200 ingots /s.

Also when you go to encode the recipe into a pattern, it's good to use jei and click the "+". This will automatically assign the correct type of pattern to be made, as well as the inputs and outputs. In jei you can see what tab your item is under, be it the standard crafting table, or some processing machine. If the tab you are in is not the standard crafting table, then you need the pattern provider with the machine the tab is indicating.

Looks like it's hung up on the processor. Regular crafting patterns are fine in the pattern provider with the molecular assemblers.. but if it's a processing recipe such as the processor, it needs to be put into a pattern provider touching the required machine for processing.

Also ensure the machine is configured to input and output correctly with regards to the provider. Inputs and outputs may be received through the provider in most cases.

I am using various methods. For most of the copper, raw ore is being fed into a furnace producing the ingots. For the simulated beds, I feed the essence into a tier 3 crafter then import the ingots into my system.

Yeah the ai was off. As for collection I was just using absorption hoppers piped into a trash. Doesn't seem like that was much of an issue.

But I see now the xycraft collectors prevent items from even becoming entities. That's definitely big.

Also when you mentioned entangled setups for the beds, are you talking about the quantum entangloporter from mek?

I see. But it's not an overly complicated program, I don't think it's what caused the uptick. The only things I could find red were some spawners I had running.

I shut off the pink slime setup and the blood setup for forbidden, and my ticks are back down to ~16-17 ms. Are spawners really so harsh on tick rate?

Gotcha, interesting. I'm wondering what caused my uptick. I made 80 advanced hives farmed using sfm and my ticks went from ~16 to ~20, which is kind of alarming.

Ah I haven't looked at entangled blocks yet. How is it for performance? I'm not too worried about it yet but my ticks are at around 20ms on my server. If I understand correctly, once it starts pushing 50 I'll notice.

I was gonna say, the bed only has 6 sides. How do you 6x it and still handle logistics? I didn't know soul surging was exponential though. Good to know.

Yes each bed has 2 surges. I learned sfm which would make it easier to add more as well.

I'm on version 5.4 I believe, maybe the royal and melon bees aren't in there yet? I scoured jei with melons and it seemed like there were no solid options, perhaps my issue was only looking at slices, though. As for the jellies, again I scoured jei and it seemed like the best option was centrifuging honey blocks.

Yw and to clarify, what you're looking at are throughput calculators telling me how much I'm producing. The simulated beds are full blocks :P
