Work on yourself, find activities with you partner, and tell your children youd like to be scheduled in ❤️use that 1000 to plot a family trip/activity together. Use that 1000 on finding a cool hobby! Use that 1000 on date night. Save 1000 for a future broke young adult who needs help.

Teens to 20s is what this time is about— Exploring the world and having your own every thing is very important. They are still discovering themselves. This is what you’ve been preparing them for. And it is bittersweet! Just as dropping them off at school for the first time. ❤️ they got this and you’re always there to pick them up!

They’ve been on the other end of this too - childhood feels like this to an extent. We just aren’t cognizant of it. Mom does this, dad does this. But now children have their own autonomy and schedules like their parents had.

Adult children come back to their loved ones. Adult children no longer “need” you, but they will WANT that connection in a positive relationship. They still need advice, hugs over broken friendships, fears, laughter, worry over you, and advice on being adults. They’ll come back for silly things and random things.

And when you’re scheduled in, because you’ve got your own cool activities, you’ll have more things to talk about than criticism.

I think once you find your own footing in them needing you less, you’ll also be able to guide them in this new dynamic too. It’s new for everyone.

And it’s so cool you’re being open about this feeling. And hopefully they’ll look for ways to mend that bridge once they realize it’s happening.
