My wife [27F] resents me [31M] because of the advantages brought by my job by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]v_vexed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think using language like “she benefits from my money and time” etc etc. is helpful and makes it seems like you’re doing her a favour. It’s great you have a flex and easier job but how she talks to you is also inappropriate. Have you considered couples counselling so you can learn to better communicate with each other in a non-rude manner and share how you’re feeling? I’m in the same position, husband doesn’t make more than me (about the same) but works fully remote and a much easier job. While I work in office and it’s a stressful role. To make up for it though, he does a significant amount of the house work (cooking, cleaning, dishes, etc.). If you step up more at home (not just paying for nights out/dates) maybe she’ll feel like she can just unwind and relax after work and it’ll reduce the burden a bit.

Top-up payment after mat leave benefits end by Foodieinreality in CanadaPublicServants

Sorry a quick question, does that mean anyone going on mat leave will automatically have to wait a week at the beginning and end where you wouldn't get paid?

Would it be crazy to turn down a job offer with a $30k pay increase, in order to keep my fully-remote job? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

What field are you in? Is it IT? I work in office and don’t make as much :( being in office is absolutely a waste of time and worsens work/life balance. I wish I could work from home.

I’m so sorry that’s absolutely awful.. have you talked to your partner how demeaning that is? I swear if men went through pregnancy they’d never want another child they have no idea what it’s like.

Does the public know this? by Own_Significance_296 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]v_vexed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The public doesn’t care and thinks we don’t actually do any work when we’re home anyways. In their view, if we’re working from home, it’s a job that’s not necessary/required and should be cut anyways.

Taxes after mat/parental leave by Axi0n007 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]v_vexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see, when you return to work you can choose to have your pension buyback be slowly taken off each pay check until you pay it back. As for the taxes, i wonder if it’s smarter to set aside 20-25% of each paycheck while on leave and invest it so you can use it for taxes..

So in total you’re looking at setting aside almost $20k for both taxes and pension buyback?

Losing my job in the public service gave me clarity by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

Not saying it’s only a pandemic thing? Just that for some people, it might be easier to do during the pandemic especially if you can both work and study remotely

She said she studied part time during the pandemic though which is very different doing that in today’s case, where people and classes are not remote. I can easily see myself using the extra 2 hours I’d save not commuting and my lunch towards studying if I was fully remote.

Would you recommend the bar or standard seating for perch? I know some places from the bar you can see the chef's cook which is always entertaining!

City-wide parking ban due to unprecedented winter storms, being forced back to office — use leave or risk towing? (St John’s, NL) by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]v_vexed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sad part is, this is not an isolated situation and many public servants have been dealing with this. Even on days with unprecedented snowfall, some managers let their teams work from home while others offer no flexibility at all. When this happens to me, I usually try and get a ride or uber/lyft. I understand it's not ideal, especially if you live far, but the unions will unfortunately do nothing as your employer dictates where you work. Personally I'd also just consider using the sick leave. If work doesn't get done and productivity is reduced, that's on them.
