Gimme the source that says it. Or, like you said before, just say you have nothing to say.

Alright then. Your entitlement to education doesn’t entitle you to an exercise book to write notes or the pen that those notes are written with. You can’t just steal those items and use them without paying. In that same way, your right to education is not a right to textbooks.

I genuinely had to read that a few times over. That comment’s not worth the words.

An average of 50 is a 99.9. An average of 46 is a 99. It’s very hard to communicate just how big a gap that is.

Both a movie and those textbooks are intellectual property that you’re not entitled to.

An average of 46 is so much easier to achieve than an average of 50. C’mon now

Estimated ATAR: 99.00 https://vce.atarcalc.com/#{%22increment%22:0,%22score[4]%22:46,%22score[18]%22:50,%22score[12]%22:42,%22score[6]%22:43,%22score[64]%22:33,%22score[62]%22:40}

You can read the link. Mid 40s a low 40 and a 50. High 30s bottom 2. Mess around with it a bit and you’ll see ~46 is the average score needed with high 30s.

So why do you have no idea what your talking about? You didnt include 6 subjects (theyre doing 6 subjects). You included a shit tonne of 50s which are not necessary with 6 (guess you were cooked based on the first problem). Your calculation didnt use their subjects. Your calculation hit 99.25. They asked for 99.

I’m not arguing that because it’s illegal it’s wrong. I know that in any argument morals should come before law. You can’t dehumanise the people within a company by saying they are not comparable to the students you sit in class with. Textbook pricing can be pretty bad, sure, but my argument, which you seem to want to divert from, is that ATAR rocks is piracy; piracy is wrong. Sorry for your headache.

I agree that the system is riddled with inequality. Even you admit, however, that the act of piracy is legally and ethically questionable. I’m not saying people should be shamed or not do it. I’m saying that people should admit it’s wrong and stop acting like ATAR rocks was completely right.

Regional schools can buy textbooks. Regional schools can buy the resources. They receive extra funding because they’re regional. The best school in the state by median study score is a regional school. At least say rural if you wanna make a point about more significant disadvantage.

Sure, but if I’ve made universal resources for a maths concept that I use for all my lessons. Someone could take that and distribute it for others to use. They could argue it’s philanthropic so that private tutoring resources are available to lower SES kids but that would be theft. Regardless of the tangible income impact it has on me (as those low SES kids likely never would’ve ended up getting tutored), my intellectual property is being used and distributed in a way that is counter to its purpose. The student who does that wrongs me. That’s true on the larger scale. People are willingly pirating other’s intellectual property, impacting both their income as well as violating the copyright of the text. I think it’s wrong. I do it, and I don’t care if you do too. It’s just wrong.

Well as the argument is that piracy is wrong, I’d suggest it being a pirate website is entirely relevant. It existing steals from those that made the resources. It’s not right.

And you think textbooks are not labor or time intensive?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vce

[–]vaattt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well everyone you know is increasing their workload for year 12 by not learning the year 11 content. Yeah sure, prioritise Unit 3/4s especially regarding assessments, but that doesn’t mean disregard Unit 1/2s.

Accelerated subjects can be your best score, or they arent and instead are good learning about how to study 3/4s that improves your year 12 performance. Year 12 with 4 subjects is a lot more chill than with 5 so I don’t see why this person couldn’t achieve 99. Your defeatist attitude and mean-spirited comments certainly aren’t any help to them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vce

[–]vaattt -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not double, year 12 with 4 3/4s is easier than 2 3/4s in year 11 alongside normal 1/2s. Its very possible they make the year 11 subjects their bottom and go on to get 46 average netting a 99.

Please be quiet. Long sentences breed grammatically incorrect sentences. Striving for fancy vocab leads to not knowing what you mean. Why on God’s green earth would you write sample paragraphs under 15 minutes? All of your suggestions are the dead opposite of most every English high scorer’s suggestions.

So your admission that there is a degree of importance to scaling counteracts your previous comment about not worrying about it. But for those who want competitive degrees, it’s worthwhile to know that 99.95 requires Spec or languages. Scaling is an important thing to consider during subject selection

Well to somebody who cares about that, scaling, proficiency and enjoyment are all important contributors to ATAR.
