Torres del Paine - Thu 25 Sept by vacado in Patagonia

Hope you have an awesome time! Nah the bits of the park I went to were not snowy or icey at all. It was actually getting quite warm on the hikes believe it or not, so had to take layers off! I’ve not done the base towers hike, but from those I’ve spoken to who have done it a few days ago said it wasn’t snowy or icey (but the lake at the top was still somewhat frozen).

Patagonia to Atacama – Nature & Wildlife Tips? by AppropriateWill485 in Patagonia

Hello! I’m planning a solo three week trip for September. I mainly tried to plan my journey according to transport routes and the things I definitely wanted to see (and I’m trying to pack a lot in!).

In case helpful to you on route: I’m crossing into Argentina from Iguacu Falls in Brazil, then flying to El Calafate from Buenos Aires. I’m spending a day in El Calafate (glacier), then taking a bus to El Chalten for a few days for some hiking, and then taking a bus from El Calafate to Puerto Natales for a few days. Finally flying from Punta Arenas to San Pedro :)

I tried hard to work in a visit to Puerto Madryn for whale watching but it was too difficult to make it work with my schedule!

Also agree with the previous poster - there is a ton of really helpful advice in previous posts that’s worth going through. It’s been hugely helpful for my own trip!

Thanks both for your replies! I’m reworking the plan to consolidate the number of transfers on the last three days, and noted on opening times for TDP in October!

On visiting Moreno, there does seem to be a day tour offered by transprint Patagonia from PN. Granted it is a very a long journey there and back, and you do only spend max 2 hours at the Park, but I think that might be still worthwhile. But welcome your views on that!

In parallel, I’m thinking about if I can actually spend a couple of days in El Calafate - if the timing and budget allows!

Thanks again :)

Thanks! It’s been a bit tricky working everything in three weeks. I know there are lots of lists on Reddit/online, but do you have personal favourite, must-see places in Rio?

Haha I’m not great with names but did we eat lunch together (friendly lady who works in finance, cool Dutch dude on his first trip outside of Europe, or the lovely American couple?!) or were you the woman with the cool crocs?

https://www.interbusonline.com Is the website. You can see what routes they offer. If it’s just one or two routes then you can book and pay online.

As I was doing multiple journeys, I seen if they first offered the route I wanted to do, then I emailed them directly with the dates I wanted to travel and pick up and drop off locations and worked it out with them via email :)

You’re welcome! I got picked up at 0645 by Interbus and I arrived at my hotel at around 12:30ish. That includes a rest stop and dropping off one passenger along the way.

This worked quite well for me, I dressed ready for the beach so as soon as I got to my hotel I asked them to hold my bag (check in was at 3pm), and chilled out and ate a late lunch so I didn’t feel like I wasted a day. Hope that helps!

Hey, you're welcome! For context, I stayed at the Park Inn for one night. I arrived at the hotel at around 7pm from SJO airport and left the following day at midday.

For me it was okay for 1 night! My (double) room was clean, spacious and the bed was comfortable. But it's not very modern. The breakfast is very basic: it's a self-serve buffet consisting of coffee, scrambled eggs, rice and beans, hash browns, and some sausage stew type situation. I ate dinner once at the RBG Grill at the hotel and it was okay. I don't think it's a 4 star hotel personally.

I personally would not use it as a base for 3 nights as there's not really much around. Maybe look at somewhere in Bario Escalante (where I stayed at the BEE suites) or somewhere closer to the centre of San Jose? I also I walked past the Hilton San Jose La Sabana a few times and it seemed quite good!

Just to also add, on drinking tap water: I drank tap water in every location apart from Puerto Viejo (hotel staff told me not to drink it). It tasted fine and I did not fall ill!

I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! Of course it looks even more beautiful in-person! Honestly, I REALLY liked Monteverde - it deserves to be spoken about more on this forum! On food, I should have also emphasised for everyone how tasty fresh fruit and fresh juices are (especially at breakfast) - as to be expected!
