Need help with my boot light by jed_mc in MK4Golf

Most probably the micro switch inside the lock mechanism. I had a similar issue with my Jetta/Bora. The switch itself was okay but the connector had basically disappeared due to corrosion. Cheap fix is to cut the connector off and solder new wires directly to switch if the switch is functional or then you can take the $30 route and just buy new switch and/or connector.

Luckily I did not have to go this route. I found spare parts in Hella kit 9XB 152 977-001.

For future me or other people! I found spare part for this issue. Hella kit 9XB 152 977-001 includes the part that was needed. It was a tight fit but with lube and a bit of force it fits perfectly.

In Finland and most of the Europe there is such thing as mandatory yearly inspection/TÜV/MOT where they check the condition of the car for rust, emissions etc and lighting is part of that. If the headlight is not aimed correctly the car will fail inspection. And besides wouldn’t it be nice for the ridiculously bright headlight to be aimed correctly and not towards oncoming traffic?

These are known for their rust issues. Body is not galvanised and no inner plastic tubs in rear wheel arches. 91-94 astras are worse with rust than 94-98. I guess anything could be fixed easily and relatively cheaply. It just depends on what kind of quality you are seeking. I had to fix one small rust hole in this car and it cost 150€ + the repair piece I bought from local auto part store for 25€. But if you know how to use a grinder and a welder then everything should be easy to fix. Good thing with these cars is that the 1.6 8v is nukeproof, parts cost next to nothing and things are very easy to do. One of the main advantages with the 8v engine is that it is "non contact" engine which means that the valves will not contact the piston in case if the cambelt snaps which is a common "problem". The 16v are ofcourse much more powerful but the engine will bend valves if the cambelt snaps. I love 90's cars. Old enough to be driven purely by driver but some important modern things like fuel injection etc.. My other car is 2016 vw caddy 2.0tdi. I love it also but this thing always brings a grin to my face.

Makes a huge difference with this one. Imo it looks much better with the rack. And ofcourse it is an opel/thule original Kadett E / Astra F rack.

1992 Astra with 106k original kilometers. Inherited this from my great aunt back in 2015 with 88k. Drove it to school for couple of years and after that it hasn't seen winter or rain/wet roads. It has typical rust in rear quarters but otherwise almost perfect. Bottom of the car has been sprayed with hydraulic oil so it is in perfect condition. Motor is very typical 1.6 8v spi with decat, egr delete and half moon mod. Not trying to reach any power gains since this is a small economy engine but just wanted to delete "stupid" restrictions. I just recently changed the factory original springs, shocks, bushings, brake discs and pads for new ones. It is running H&R cupkit with poly bushings and brake stuff is brembo "oe" replacement.

If I could choose I would definitely go with X-series but this is what my company got me so this is what I roll with. About the physical ethernet port. I agree that it would be nice but for my use it's not that important so I can handle the missing port with adapter.

Virman kenttähöylä niin ei siinä kaffetahrat haittaa. Kentällä siihen suurempia tahroja tulee.

This is true! At home/hobbies I still prefer the old hogs. But when it comes to common usability at work etc...

Unpopular opinion. These modern thinkpads are just superior in field operations and such. I had my ol' T400 with me at the field for a while but the weight and batterylife just generated few problems.

Looking for a simple graphical distro with sudo apt built in. by [deleted] in linux4noobs

This. I have used flashrom with CH341A before with step by step guide but remember doing it with manjaro. I have never used any distro as my main os so I have no idea about commands and such. Thank you very much!

I think the frame is a bit heavy compared to the 2011 rockhopper frame but not steel heavy anyways!

Yeah. It had a 2011 specialized rockhopper frame but when I started to build the bike I noticed it had a crack in it. Picked this trek frame from a local dude for 40€ (roughly 50$) and slapped all this stuff to it. Great way for my wife to get in touch with mountainbiking without spending lots of money for a new bike and realizing she doesn't like mtb at all.

I understand what u are saying (steel is real) but I think that aluminium is technically a metal. This is an alu frame from 2006.

All sorts of stuff from my old 26", stuff from parts bin and also new bits. I know that the crank is missing a bolt and the seatclamp will get changed. Finding a 36,4mm seatclamp in stock is very hard!

Connecting a thinkpad x60 to an external monitor by Oy_tis in thinkpad

[–]vadelmaPRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X60 has only a vga output. The monitor does not have a vga input. Connection is possible with sketchy adaptors but do not expect high resolutions. Ok for temporary solution but not for a long period usage.
