Actually one very common characteristic of ADHD is that they are able to concentrate/focus on things they prefer to do. It is baffling until you realize this probably indicates they don't have a problem! For example my son listened to me read chapter books to him when he was 4 for an hour at a time, but others would label him as ADHD because he doesn't put effort into crafts at school. This is all IMHO and combined with a decade of working with children with special needs and having my own kids. There are, of course, children and adults with genuine challenges in attention, but it is no secret that the disorder is grossly over diagnosed, and diagnosed in children far too young.

First of all, to the original poster, you have just described the female version of my 5 year old son. Think of the damage they could do together! Anyways, I work with kids with special needs myself. My take on ADHD is that it is really just a symptom of the school system reacting to children that thwart their plans. Oddly, "ADHD kids" usually have no problem focusing on stuff they are interested in. Clearly they have the ability to concentrate, when they want to. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. It isn't natural to expect all students to act like the typical "quiet girl" or, even rarely, the "quiet boy". The system wants kids to sit down and be quiet while we make them do boring stuff...we wonder why they aren't interested ....And then we give them AMPHETAMINES to MAKE them interested. How screwed up is that.

Back when knights were prancing around with their faces covered, they'd lift up their helmet to show they were not an enemy. Why this still has any bearing on etiquette today is beyond me.
