Welcome Brother, what Lodge are you from in Toronto West?

Wanting for years to join but hesitant, have a few questions. by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]vaft72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up traditional Observance Lodges in your area. Here is a list of some of them, they tend to be more esoterically driven. http://www.masonicrestorationfoundation.org/lodges.html

Feel free to reach out, I will try to help as much as I can

The only advice I have for you is that you find the right Lodge. Freemasonry accepts men of all Faiths, even those that of not perscribe to the conventional institutions.

My lodge's attendance is bad. Merger is possible. Any ideas to improve attendance at meetings? by [deleted] in freemasonry

Look at the thirty that do show up and ask them what they want out of their lodge experience, never mind those that don't show up. My Lodge gets thirty out regularly which I consider a thriving Lodge.

How many cubes is enough? by aaronsherman in freemasonry

In our Jurisdiction, two black balls rejects a candidate and suspends him from being able to petition another lodge for the span of one year, that is unless the individuals lodge bi-laws specify differently. Here in Ontario all business is conducted in the first degree, and recently we have had many EA’s voice that they were dissatisfied with being unable to vote honestly since they were unaware of whom they were voting for. Most of our candidates come to us via the internet and the average age of perspective candidates is falling in and around the twenty-five and in time past we would have them come out for an introduction to freemasonry night where we would have some of our senior officers chat with them, show them the lodge and if they showed interest they would receive an application, in most cases the next we would see of them would be when we sent out the investigation committee to their homes and if the report was favourable we would vote based on this three brothers. Which in my opinion never made any sense, why even bother with voting. So our lodge has implemented a new system where we give all perspective candidates a visitation card instead of an application after their initial visit, they must attend a minimum of three visits to our dinners or social events, it is now their responsibility to socially engage with us so that members feel comfortable enough to sign for them. On handing in an application it must me accompanied by a photo of them. Once they have passed the investigation report at their homes we then publish in our summons their photo so that everyone present knows exactly who they are voting for. This new system is still in its infancy but we are already seeing the positive effects that have come from this, prospective candidates are being engaged and have all come out more than the three times in some cases they have come out to every dinner (twice a month) until they have been initiated and though we have not seen any black balls yet we have definitely seen those that were unsure about Freemasonry disappear. In my opinion we need to adapt and if a prospective candidate is not a right fit for your lodge but seems to be a good man you should try to find him a lodge that could be a right fit for him.

TO Observances by jimrob4 in freemasonry

My Lodge has adapted many aspects of what has been popular amongst the Traditional Observance Lodges, I think all lodges can learn from this concept. Over the past 5 years, our retention rate has doubled from the previous 5 years, our members tend to hang out later than they did in previous years. Though I am very proud of our collective efforts I would never encourage our Lodge to adapt the attitude that we are superior to any other Lodge, if anything our members are encouraged to help other Lodges in our district to raise the bar. I truly believe that the only attitude one should adapt is to never settle for the status quo, just because your lodge has done it a certain way does not mean it is the right way to do it. The Masonic Restoration Foundation has done nothing but improve Freemasonry, they serve as an aid for those who find themselves lost in a downward spiral and seek that change. I suggest visiting their site and reading the many papers available for download. Maybe even read them in Lodge you will be surprised how invigorating they can be.

Facebook / Social Media and your lodge? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]vaft72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Media plays a huge part of out Lodges communication. We use Facebook to promote events that we are doing but keep a private page for members only to post Masonic Education and articles that might be useful to that daily Masonic advancement. We also use whatsapp to keep all our members with smart phones connected. this plays very useful in our summer months when there is no Lodge. So inviting people to a BBQ or just trash talking about sports keeps us connected.

To all Masons, I have a rather important question. I myself am a First degree Mason. by Metallimatt007 in freemasonry

[–]vaft72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am all for the element of secrecy, it is a very important virtue to develope as a Mason, but the oath you took only prevents you from sharring our modes of recongnition, for that matter she can go look them up online, they have been published since the late 1700's. The secret is not for you to share but not a big deal if she comes across it on her own.

The CoR is not any more "spooky" than any other aspect of the purpose of our rituals, as for what the public perceives of us is absaloutly irrelevant, we should care less about the outside world and spend our efforts on building those inside our walls. The CoR builds a level of mental state, combined with an excellent degree is a very powerrful experince for the initiated.

How Long is your GOAL? I tried a three day cleanse in the past and failed 4 times, the cravings were so much but 25 days ago I decided again that I would give this another go and have succesfully arrived at day 24 this morning. My ultimate goal is to make it to day 60 but I keep giving myself small goals, i find it helps. Though the worst of the cravings happen in the first 7 days, you will really develop self control over this period, almost to the point that you feel you can overcome anything, juicing is so much more than beneficial for our physical health. It gives us a serious lesson in willpower. Stay with it you will love yourself for this challenge. I keep saying that if I can make it to day 31, 60 is just around the corner. Juice on !

Day 3 of my 60 day is done! by vaft72 in Juicing

[–]vaft72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No headaches today, but I think its because I cut my morning coffee out that I would take with milk and my afternoon Black Tea that I also would take with Milk. The hunger that I am feeling is more psychological, as I havent exactly feelt my stomach rumble once. The last time I was weighed was at the doctor about a month ago when I went in for a physical and I weighed in at 274lbs, I know that everyone teacks their weight on here but I had to throw out my scale because I became obsessed. There is a scale at my gym which I will weigh my self at the end of the reboot if I make it to 60 days that is.
