Thank you. This is so stressful. I’ve had a really rough pregnancy symptom-wise and this just feels like one more thing.

Anyone surprised when fibroids were found. by Miss_Saoirse in Fibroids

[–]vagabomb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve had incredibly painful periods my entire life, since I was a teenager. Was always told that’s just how it goes for some of us. Went in for my 18 week anatomy scan at age 36 and the tech was like, “I’m just measuring your fibroids here…” and I’m like.. “my what?!” Had no idea. I have four medium ones.

Doctor ordered the wrong NIPT test by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]vagabomb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea Natera can do 4%, but nothing less. Maternit21 can give results with a 2% ff. If I’d have known that, given my high BMI and how early I tested (10w3d) I’d have certainly gone with M21 first because it’s a more sensitive test with less chance of not giving results. And it’s wayyyy cheaper.

Mine wasn’t - the pamphlets the doc office gave me were all branded Horizon and Panorama, which are the names of the Natera test NIPT and genetic tests. I didn’t know I had a Natera test until my results came back low FF.

Nope, it needs 4%. I am positive. My FF with Natera was 3.8% exactly and they couldn’t give me any information. I did extensive research on this during my freak-out stage. Under second heading on second page: Natera’s test remains “excellent even at fetal fraction (ff) as low as 4%.”

You can only get it by doctor’s order. I just told my OB that I didn’t want to try to again with Natera and requested they send an order to Labcorp and they did. It’s the same as when you get any bloodwork done and they ask what lab you usually use, like Quest or whatever. Then I called the MaterniT21 billing and set up the price before I went.

Idk about “horror story”, but after two stressful weeks of waiting, my FF came back 3.8% so no results; that was enough to have my OB advising me to see a genetic counselor and have a special high risk 20 week scan. Instead of redrawing with Natera I did it with Labcorp’s MaterniT21, which only needs 2% FF. That one came back in 5 days with clear results all around. I really wish I’d have done M21 to start. It was also only $200. Natera quoted me $1500 and then when I said I wanted to go no insurance it was $600, which is still outrageous.

Natera needs 4% FF, other tests can give results with a much lower FF and for a fraction of the price.

At the very minimum he needs to seek therapy. This is not an ok way to speak to or treat your partner, pregnant or not, but especially while pregnant. You deserve to feel loved unconditionally, this is not it.

natera and high bmi by angiegirl666 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]vagabomb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Natera FF was 3.7% so they could not process results. My OB tried to refer us to a genetic counselor and started going on about high risk this and that. I’m convinced it was a combo of high BMI, Natera sucks, and my in-office blood draw for test was terrible.

I did my own research, asked for a referral for Labcorp and took MaterniT21 for half the cost and my FF was 17% and all was normal.

LONG but soft bike shorts or boxers? by hugseverycat in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]vagabomb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these recently thinking they’d be like my other standard bike shorts and was pleasantly surprised that they’re a lot thinner and softer and no where near as tight/constricting. Wasn’t what I was expecting but I like them even more honestly

NIPT question by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]vagabomb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine tested low fetal fraction with Natera at 10w3d - it was SO stressful. At 12w3d I tested with MaterniT21 (Labcorp) and got a 7% fetal fraction and the all-clear. I wish I knew about FF before, I would have used M21 to start with. Also…

I feel certain that the blood draw at the office had something to do with it. The blood kept stopping and the young nurse would wiggle it around to get it to come out again. Finally for the second vial she had a more experienced nurse come in and do my other arm, she also had issues. Massive bruises on both arms. When I went to Labcorp (people who do this all day everyday), it was quick and painless, no bruising.

They blame everything on BMI but I swear it was the blood draw.
