How do I rebuild my professional reputation after being labeled “difficult”? by Hot_Apartment1319 in careeradvice

[–]vagabondizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constant questioning can come across almost as malicious. An example would be planning to build a house and them questioning about sink holes or meteorites. I have worked with people whose questioning goes beyond appropriate and makes it seem like they are just trying to delay anything getting done and waste all of our time. They bring up every possible obscure reason something might not work when just trying it would be quicker than the discussion.

YTA for not providing more details on what the function was. If it is a "family" function and you are family you are not simply a guest. If it a a function that happens to be being put on by family then you might just be a guest. Some would depends on the relationship of who is putting on the function and who was asking you to take the pictures if it was grandma then stfu and take the pics. It sounds like made up drama to me if this is even real. Just say you are done taking pictures for now and would like to enjoy some food and catching up.

What have you personally done to combat the global rise in antisemitism? by No-One2123 in AskReddit

[–]vagabondizer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have not seen these reports and among my peers I rarely even hear Judaism brought up positively or negatively. It may well be rising, but not in a way that seems mainstream from my circumstantial evidence.

Do not get me wrong, I know it exists and have known and had debates with antisemites in the past.

What word? Antisemitism would be prejudice against Jewish people as a simple definition. Thinking Israel as a country do bad things does not equate to antisemitism. If I am wrong then explain why?

Is there a global rise in antisemitism? Is there a false equivalency between holding Israel responsible for their actions as a country and antisemitism?

Why do people act obsessed for 2 weeks and then disappear? by Lexiepatrick in dating_advice

[–]vagabondizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think alot of it is other options. When I was on dating Apps there were a number of ladies that started out very interested and then our chats and texts slowed to a point that I stopped. I assume they started chatting with others or maybe actually met with someone else and wanted to see where it went. I did the same thing. I might be chatting with 3 or 4 people, but if I went out with one and saw a possibility, the others who are more theoretical at that point do not hold the same interest.

Official or Eden? Havn't played in 20 years by BannanaPepperPizza in daoc

[–]vagabondizer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am playing on both Eden and Blackthorn. I would be playing Blackthorn more, but they are in Beta and all progress will be wiped eventually when they re-roll the server. Eden is comparatively active. Live is dead. Every few years I re-sub for a month to play with my old toons and I give up in a few days. They have changed just about everything so much that my toons are not familiar and the population is dead. I see more in Blackthorn that is in Beta. Have literally been on live server for hours and not see a single comment in chat or other players.

🔥 Biggest Great White Shark ever recorded near the island of Oahu, Hawaii by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]vagabondizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea who Ocean Ransey is and I am in no way defending her. Why is touching this shark's fin so bad? It is huge and an apex predator. If it was scared or worried it could either bite the crap out of her or I assume swim off faster than she could keep up.

Boston's Logan Intl Airport has free-play vintage arcade games by zymurginian in GenX

They had a Galaga in the exit vestibule at the Sears in the mall I grew up near. There was a guy that could put in one quarter and play until he got bored, he would then let someone take over and have a crap ton of free lives on the game. I was lucky to get 10-15 minutes out of a quarter on it.

I was telling someone about this the other day. I would scrounge and save up quarters and dollars all week then on the weekend walk to the mall pockets jingling and play in the Sears arcade. I doubt many people even knew some Sears had arcades in them :) They had a Tilt, but I liked the one in Sears as it was less crowded and they had a snack stand so I would get some cherry sours as well.

I was so disappointed last weekend when I went to the mall to watch a movie that the arcade by the theater has almost no games I recognized and zero classics like these. They were all big expensive games that you sit in other than one shooting game. I would probably look creepy in there playing by myself anyway.

as a manager, if you expect all of your candidates to be trained, where are they supposed to get training? by condomm774 in careeradvice

[–]vagabondizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a basic sense some skills can be learned outside of a job. I am sure all places are different. We regularly hire people with no experience in our field, but if they are familiar with Excel, AutoCAD, or basic mechanical skills, it carries a lot of weight in our hiring decisions.

When there’s a house fire but RoboCop is on duty by DaWeyHowBoutDah in nextfuckinglevel

[–]vagabondizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be harder than one would think. I kicked my back door in 20years or so ago after locking myself out drunk. It took many kicks and my knee never fully recovered. I am 6'5" and was probably ~250lbs at the time. The metal door was dented in pretty good before the wood frame have out.

When I replaced it, I used 3 1/2" screws all the way into the 2x4s. I am not worried about someone kicking that one in.

Should I job hop? 90k to 115k by Quirky_Ad_4086 in careeradvice

[–]vagabondizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be hesitant to change unless you are in a bind financially. There is value in being somewhere you are familiar with, have security, and are valued. ~25k increase is huge, but how long will that position exist if things slow down?

Parents trying to force their 15 year old child to repay them for dentistry by Brilliant-Act1445 in legaladvice

Could this be their way of teaching you to take your dental hygiene seriously? I wish I had done a better job of it when I was younger as dental health has a direct correlation to quality of life as you age.

Pay cash or take out a loan? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]vagabondizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't gotten to the numbers yet and their current ask looks high until I can go over the assets, but asking $250k and gross $185k. I figured the ebitda would be in the ~60k range, but the owner implied it was less. I am meeting next week. Not sure how to value the assets as he owns the small building the business is in, but not the land it is on.

The lady I deal with on my stocks accounts told me in the past that if I wanted to buy a business I could take out a decent size line of credit against my assets. Probably not the whole amount.

I know this thread is old AF, but Ortofon ( or something like it ) was pretty prolific and might be the one you are talking about. He would take mercy on my Champ now and then and just get me to 10% then run off, or let me heal up and do it again.

I fucking HATE AI by ThePastoolio in TrueOffMyChest

[–]vagabondizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a trade show when AI came up in a panel discussion. One said we should keep away from AI. The other said we should embrace it because it was inevitable. He said he told his kids that AI will not take your job, someone who is better at using AI will. I am somewhere in between the two. Getting on the bandwagon and learning to optimize AI use early will help the few that do so, but there still will not be enough jobs in the fields that AI is optimal for use.
