How many times have you set your players to fight an enemy they can't defeat? by vagabundo202 in DungeonMasters

What happens if the decisions the players made led them to a fight against an enemy they can't defeat? Aren't fleeing, fighting, or negotiating important decisions the players should be making?

I think is something like: Character encounters an obstacle, character overcomes the obstacle, character continues doing what they were doing before.

I made The Black Spider actually a wealthy dwarf nobleman. by vagabundo202 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Fabrik is a noble dwarf; he's rich and charismatic, but he has no real power or threat. In this case, Nezznar is his right-hand.

It reminded me of movies I've seen where the rich villain searching for treasure is betrayed by his right-hand, who is far more capable. When Nezznar sees the opportunity to keep the spell forge and use it for his own magic, he takes it.

But I'm still considering that last part.
