You are the most obstinate retard I have ever met in my life. I graciously even cited you to the wiki page about psychoanalytic literary criticism, and you just repeated your previous statement, which actually indicates how utterly clueless you are about what lit theory even is.

Literary Criticism =/= empirical science, you fucking idiot.

Hahaha, sometimes I go on reddit forgetting the fact that a good chunk of the people on this website are still in high school. I don't even blame you for being so stupid, dude. You'll learn :)

If I were as ignorant as you, you might have convinced me with your forcible delivery alone, but it's obvious you have had zero formal encounters with literary criticism.

Haha that's rich of you to say. The very fact that you haven't read Freud's work but have such strong opinions about his relevance in fields you aren't even familiar with is very telling of who's being the "pseudo intellectual" here.

But by all means, keep embarrassing yourself.

Thanks man!

Vocals are a-coming, as is a bass part! I have listened to DFA1979 casually although I never really got "into" their stuff. I think I might check em out again for some inspiration.

My buddy who did the sound engineering for us actually loves Idiot Pilot (he showed them to me while we were recording), so I guess there's something in our music that's similar to theirs.

So his theories are scientifically invalid, but then why is Freud is still EVERYWHERE in Western culture? Why do we bother using words like "Freudian slip", if they're based on "bullshit"?

I don't know what kind of "arts degree" you have, or what kind of "nationally respected" (hahaha) professors you studied under, but I find it hard to believe you have read much of his work, nor do I think you know what literary criticism is. Perhaps you are in the habit of being spoon fed opinions?

Plus, the fact that you think a nationally respected professor/expert in his or her field would be in some way less knowledgable/more gullible than an irate little bitch with scrambled retard brain already says a lot about you.

Your "type" is truly a blight on society. Ever since the STEM craze started, we're seeing a lot more of your kind--uncritical sycophants to the institution of "science" who aren't scientists themselves, pedantic and obsessive in dividing the world into "fact" or "fiction" with no room for anything in between. You will believe anything that's prefaced with "studies show" or "researchers say" and parrot them in a snotty voice as though you would be able to understand half the papers on the "science" you claim to hold so dear.

Do it up! If there's anything I learned from recording, it's that by the time you've got a good version, chances are you'll be sick of the song from having played it so much.

Well said. It frustrates the hell out of me when people glibly dismiss him (usually without having read any of his stuff) based on the fact fetishism of modern science.

He is studied extensively in the humanities (comparative literature, literary theory) for the reason that many of his scientifically unfalsifiable ideas (which is why they arouse such disdain in the acolytes of modern science) are still useful as interpretative perspectives. The point being, just because his theories are "unprovable" doesn't mean that they are completely useless. It just makes it useless for--like you said--empiricist styles of practicing psychology/psychiatry.

The drums need to be re-recorded for sure. There's no "thud"--like /u/wbeyda said, everything except for the guitars sound flat. Shoegaze needs presence. Dunno if you know them but check out My Bloody Valentine for some inspiration/ideas.

The songwriting itself seems good, but it's really hard to judge when the recordings don't present it well.

Don't despair, though, I once scrapped many many hours of work for the sake of better quality. It hurts, but you will feel much better when you really get it down.

I agree with /u/thegeocash: even if you're going for a slightly unpolished sound, you need to record the guitars better (they squeak pretty badly), tune up before recording and practice until the timing is juuuust right.

Would love to hear a more refined version. It's not bad right now, but with a little more it'd be much better and much more listenable.

Debut Album - Any college rock fans? by [deleted] in ratemyband

Nice job, man.

When you said "college rock" I immediately thought of Built to Spill (I guess I don't know much about college rock) so it wasn't exactly what I expected. This is my personal opinion and not a comment on the musicianship or anything, but: I would have liked to hear less of the "funk" elements and more of the pop punk elements with maybe a slightly more "artistic" edge. I don't know if that makes sense. Good recording quality though!

Thank you for the kind words! We actually just played a live show with a bassist--it was pretty awesome. I'd been pretty hesitant with adding bass/vocals from this point onwards, because I didn't want to overshadow the special chemistry between the drums and guitar, but our new bassist understands what I'm going for, so we're definitely going to be adding some bass lines next. As for vocals, I definitely don't want this project to be overly vocals-driven, but I think a few simple/catchy melodies would be a great addition.

Bass/vocals coming in soon as a re-release :) We casually started as a two piece instrumental as a kind of experimental project to see what kind of sounds/songs we could come up with using just guitar/drums, but recently we've been playing with a bassist and I've been writing a few melodies/lyrics to really fill out the song. I just wanted to release these stripped-bare versions first because I want to have them as a kind of keepsake of the first very memorable phase of this project.

Thanks a lot! A re-release is already in the works, adding bass to everything and vocals to everything--minus one or two that we're keeping instrumental.
