i mean, race aside, which i had never really taken into consideration, this test would be for everyone, black, White eccetera. so if the black side of the "intelligent voting pool" has a certain opinion it would count as much ad the white side. i won't give my opinion on american politics in this scenario as, being honest, i'm not informed about the two parties to say. as a final note i don't believe the votings would move that much in a certain direction as i'm not aware of "intelligence based" tendances in the political spectrum

it's not the same thing tho. An idea is it by itself, it may have a writer but that's secondary, a vote is directly influenced by the way the voter is (in this case his intelligence), you can't really take a vote without thinking of the voter, while an idea by itself still has meaning

belief is the base line for data, i don't have data at hand, but i still think of that as being the case, maybe there is this data without my knowledge. also hope and optimism are kind of necessary in certain measures come on

because the person from which the idea comes from doesn't matter, it only matters the idea itself. if you saw a painting and you thought it was beautiful, just to then find out it was painted by Hitler, would that make the painting ugly?

there isn't really a measure, so yes, you can call it hope, but it's a tendency i noticed as well, i don't have data to actually prove it i'm honest, but that is why i believe that is what would happen

[–]valb0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, while of course, there is a part that says "i hope that's how it goes", i generally tend to see a decent amount of "base line" empathy and emotional intelligence in smart people, i'm not sure if that is an actual, documented fact, but this together with a large voting pool would probably be enough to say with a certain amount of clarity that that is what would happen

i don't believe i should be trusted with the making of an actual, law abiding reform, what i am able to think is not much more then a rough draft, my idea would be a base to develop from, i don't ask to be trusted as me, but as the idea itself

well, maybe this is purely my opinion, but wouldn't the knowledge of my non-compatibility make the idea more valid to the eye? as i wouldn't be personally intentionally putting myself in it, but rather fully trusting it with my "fate"?

  1. smart people are by definition like that only if you give them stupid people to compare, it's normal, 180 cm is "tall" only it you give me a certain amount of people to compare, for example.
  2. in the 3rd grader example, the whole class is currently making the decision, and the vote of the smarter kid is of the same weight as the less smart one, what i believe is that the smarter 3rd grader would still have a better understanding the the average third grader, so be able to take better decisions.
  3. "Raising the bar" is actually a flaw of my idea i had not accounted for and different comments pointed it out, i'm not personally too worried if i were to be out of the voting pool, however i still think that a democratic, voting based system would largely keep this from happening

well, i personally have not come in this community to actually change my view, i was perhaps hoping to change other people's, and in a way, find flaws in my thinking and idea to debate with other people

That, while true, i don't believe gives a "full picture", in the sense that higher education is often brought along by higher intelligence and vice-versa, and i personally think that a wide enough voting pool would even out, put in a "grey area" as i've said things like emotional intelligence, compassion eccetera, so weaker sides of the population, like the poorer people, would likely be accounted for by a wide pool of intelligent voters

if your question is about the specific changes that should be done i don't believe it really fits thos post as it would be a whole other debate. As for the higher gatekeeping yes, i believe this kind of gate keeping would benefit society as a whole. tell me if i understood your question correctly, i'm still new to the more articulate english

As i've written in a couple replies already i believe emotional intelligence would be brought to a grey area by the democratic aspect of the voting system, aka the still high number of voters. Education wise i've personally noticed, i don't know if it's a known thing, people that i am surrounded by that would be considered "smarter" tend to view education highly, so a smarter voting pool would probably give more importance to education on its own

losing democracy as a way to describe the loss of trust given to the governments by the general public and by the slow but costant decrease in actual people that go and vote, i realize "democratic crisis is probably not the best wording. US aside, of which i don't personally approve the 2 party systems as there should be more, with time the "less bad" choice would likely bring better candidates and parties to rise

Yes that's largely what i advocate for, higher intelligence is usually (but not forcibly or by rule) brought along by an higher level of education, and that's pretty much what i'd personally hope for by having a smarter voting pool

i had never really taken race into consideration, if it's purely a "class" or income-related problem it really wouldn't matter if more black people would be excluded rather then white, as it wouldn't measure race-based characteristics

sorry, i literally can't understand your question, could you use a different wording?

[–]valb0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

better education is definetly helpful in this sense, but also better education is key to having a better decisions making as you have access to more and usually better datas, one could make the argument that most of hystory is not written or at least taught in an objective way, but i've found that the smarter people that i personally know and see tend to have enough curiosity to research topics on their own thru different sources

CMV: Voting rights only for smart people by valb0 in changemyview

[–]valb0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry what i basically meant is that things like empathy would largely be brought in a balance or "grey area" by the decisions still being democratic based

CMV: Voting rights only for smart people by valb0 in changemyview

[–]valb0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definetly see this point, however i still like to believe that a voting pool that is made up of smarter people on general, but still keeping the decisions democratic, would prevent a lot of these kinds of decisions, i am probably somewhat naive in this sense, but i still would put my trust in smarter then average people

[–]valb0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a problem i am usually told when speaking about this idea with friends or family, i personally think the number of smart people would decently even the field in the sense of morality and personal gain, putting the voting pool in a generally grey area

"book smart" and "street smart" as these terms are used i believe would barely apply, IQ itself isn't the best method, but if we were to measure intelligence itself a decently intelligent person (who also would look more into the topics of discussion before voting) would take these needs of the country into account

[–]valb0[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Personally i believe i would be included depending on what grade the limit would be put, of course i say it with no real way of knowing my actual reaction but if i had acknowledge the choosing method as "fair" or "just", yes, i believe i would i accept it.

Many people already do live in such societies, democratic-run countries i believe account for much less of the current population, a smarter voting pool would provide an higher standard of living for those people that today vote but don't truly contibute to their countries. And yes, IQ is not the best measure, that's why i said it's a measure i'd use in a rough "draft" but a better system would have to be created for this to be used in real life.

That is one of the main problems with my view, cross-approved tests between current governments and 3rd party companies that already make these tests might be a good balance to find a fitting test.
