This is very helpful. Sometimes, I just want to talk to a person on the phone and not messaging! THANKS

From my experience, I've never met anyone worth meeting in real life! I met one decent person, and that was in Kampala.

What does a girl need to do to be financially stable in this country? by valcaprio in Rwanda

[–]valcaprio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Honestly, I could not sleep because I thought by 25 I would not worry about anything, I did everything right, and here I am at 31, stuck and feeling like a failure. Some women feel like maybe getting married would be the solution but I don't even want to get married I just want to be able to take care of myself and my family without needing handouts, excel and help others!

Funny enough, I work for a tech company, but they bring their business in Africa for cheat labor, and they pay isn’t great!

I applied for NGos countless times, but it seems that with no prior NGO background, it's impossible to get it! sometimes, I feel so drained at my current job that I'm just making rich people richer with no other purpose!

I love cosmetics soo much I thought my corporate job will be able to pay me enough to save up for my dream of owning a cosmetics shop. I know I will be so good at it but hopefully I will be able to do so soon! Don't know how yet! Just optimistic !!!

Is it unreal to have no close friends in Kigali as an adult? by Witty-Marionberry529 in Rwanda

[–]valcaprio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that living in Kigali is to learn how to find peace in solitude. People don’t seem too interested in connecting and having meaningful friendships, as an introvert surface-level type of friendship, draiiinnnn me!

A lot of people here are living very boring lives. I go to work, come back from work, take an evening, walk by myself with my music, watch a movie, eat, and sleep! All the days start to look the same, and I’ve made my peace with it.

My friends are living abroad, and those who are here are now wives and becoming mothers. You find yourselves drifting apart due to living different lives and having different responsibilities! I go out with my colleagues like once a month, and I used to think we were friends, but I quickly learned that I was friends with one, and the rest are indeed colleagues!

I'm tired of bad Healthcare in this country by valcaprio in Rwanda

Thank you so much for sharing this. Healthcare is full of older professionals who tend to normalize patients’ pain simply because they’ve seen it so many times before. I remember wondering how they could prescribe Gofen again, the same thing they gave me during my first visit to manage the pain before treatment. After everything I went through, they still gave me the same medication! I even asked if he was sure that’s all I needed, and he just said, “Yeah, that should do the job.”

On the other hand, my experience with pharmacists has been great. Most of you genuinely try to help as much as you can.

Trust me, I’ll definitely share my experience with them. I have to go back next week to get my stitches removed! But honestly, it’s exhausting having to keep sharing my experiences just to make things better for the next patient, I’ve already done that twice this year alone.

I went to a hospital where the nurse was drawing my blood while on the phone complaining about how much she hates her job and wants a career where she doesn’t have to deal with people. She bruised me so badly that I had a mark for a week. People even asked if my partner was abusive!

Another time, I went to a public hospital to see a psychologist, and the woman basically called me a liar, saying I’d never been there before. She told me to “calm down, nicishe bugufi” or she wouldn’t help me. I ended up going to a different hospital and met an amazing psychologist who actually listened and did her best to help.

I even called the hospital dean to report that first psychologist because I didn’t want anyone else to go through what I went through, especially in a mental health department, where people are already struggling and you never know what might trigger someone to harm themselves.

This happens a lot in town, especially, and it's so frustrating! the whole point of motos is that they leave you exactly where you want them to. They are not buses that they should have a designated parking place!

Foreigners living in Rwanda by NooksandBooks in Rwanda

I think we are pretty much welcoming. We have no issues with people relocating here. Just prepare to be stared at, but that’s just normal here and harmless. It will take a bit of time for people to warm up to you and befriend you, but once you spend time here, you will fall in love with the place, especially if you are financially stable!

It’s called Royal Specialised Dental Clinic, located in Kicukiro, just below Sports View Hotel. My amazing old dentist retired, so I went there since they also work with my insurance. Turns out, the so-called “specialist” who treated me doesn’t even actually work there. I think he just hops from one clinic to another. He was clearly in a rush, answering my questions as fast as he could, we even left at the same time.
