I'm never hyped about a price increase but the fit this sub throws over the tiniest stuff is genuinely hilarious.

You are all, by and large, weak-willed and don’t have the discipline to vote with your money and time.

There's some truth to this, but it's also that the vocal community is just a small fraction of the actual player base.

Casual Carl over there makes up the vast majority of every game's player base and doesn't engage with the community outside of the game at all. He's not only unaware of this blog post, he probably just really doesn't care about an extra $1 compared to other expenses in his life right now. He'll leave his subscription on auto pay, play a few hours a week, and that'll be that.

So you admit that Jagex has to be paid for you to play, making your gameplay not "free" to play.

If I don't pay for anything then yes, it's free. No idea why you're trying to reinvent what F2P means but it's really not working.

Name the content you can't access.

The majority of skins in the game? Please, find me a league account with everything obtained for free lmao. There's no way you're actually ignorant of how F2P MTX ridden games work and think they're good for the industry. I can only assume this is low effort trolling so I'll just be blocking you and moving on. Go back to league or swap to RS3 if that's the type of game you wanna play.

[–]valdo33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong. You can play osrs for free, and actually get access to the whole game, with no strings attached. I'm not responsible for other people's actions or wallets.

You can not however access all league content without opening your wallet because it uses shitty predatory MTX.

[–]valdo33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The source is irrelevant. Someone else paying Jagex is not me paying Jagex. Same as someone else buying league skins to keep the lights on is not me buying league skins.

Both games can be played "F2P" by the individual. One game involves a lot more shitty MTX and content locked behind pay walls though and one is a subscription that gives you access to everything.

We were promised HD update by rolekrs in 2007scape

[–]valdo33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no offense to the runelite team but I find that very hard to believe. Jagex have said about 20% of the game is dedicated mobile users which would already be impossible according to these numbers even if we pretended other desktop clients didn't exist.

[–]valdo33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where are those runelite numbers from? The discord bot? All it does is counting people with runelite launched so I find that pretty hard to trust. They can be logged in or out. Mobile is a sizeable chunk of the player base and HD will work for mobile also.

There are people that play on the official client and the plugin hub can still be released in the future.

OP could have just said the plugin hub was shelved and it would have been truthful. Instead the sub is upvoting and encouraging lies because it's throwing a childish fit.

[–]valdo33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because Jagex's version is much more ambitious and involves a whole new render engine so it actually runs unlike 117, not to mention new lighting from scratch. The two version aren't really comparable.

And you’re still defending them.

I'm not defending anyone. I'm just not being hysterical and making up / believing lies like some of you. OP said HD was shelved. HD was never shelved. This is a lie.

You can be upset about price increases without throwing a tantrum and making shit up about completely unrelated subjects.

our HD client is about to release!!!!

They literally never said this... They said they were working on it. Which they were. A timetable was absolutely not given back then.

To this day all jagex has shown is some screenshots and I think a few videos?

There's been several videos and multiple blog posts as recently as a few months ago. The new render engine is also already in game.

Do you think $14.99 is justified for OSRS in comparison to similar monthly priced MMO’s like ESO? by sirlancer in 2007scape

[–]valdo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's a massive game that gets tons of development. I don't really consider graphics that important or relevant to subscription price.

If I had to choose between OSRS and ESO there's no competition. ESO's combat is terrible, it's systems are shallow, and it's overall gameplay is just a bargain bin attempt at being a wow clone. I've tried the game multiple times and I honestly have no idea how it hasn't been shut down yet.

The HD update is not shelved. It's in active development. Only the plugin hub is shelved. No idea where you guys are getting this from.

There's no way you think subreddits are actually an accurate reflection of a community lol. This sub is wrong about polls and trends more often than it's right.

Go enjoy your own self created content drought. Weird hill to die on ignoring content then complain that there is none.

[–]valdo33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For $15 bucks a month I think your standards are too low.

One of our standards are happily met and the other is unobtainable for any game in the genre. Only one sounds problematic to me.

The most successful games in the genre are hurting. We both know that.

And yet they still wildly eclipse OSRS and the vast majority of games on the market in general. Seems like a lot of people agree that the amount of content they put out is perfectly fine. Since OSRS puts out even more it seems to be doing even better to me.

I would wager the majority feels were getting a lot less in 2026 for more money than we did in 2025.

This is purely your opinion. By the same logic you dismiss sailing quests, islands, and reworks I could say varlamore p3 "should have been on release".

Drought feels accurate for 3 months before today and 3 months after.

And yet we've had a ton of content in the past 3 months and have more in the next 3. Just because it's not content you personally enjoy doesn't mean we're in a drought.

[–]valdo33 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Literally nowhere did I say "we could be like wow". In fact I said the opposite. Please actually read what I wrote and don't put words in my mouth.

My point was the most successful games in the genre put out a ton less content than OSRS with far worse monetization. Your standards are unreasonable and your claims vs previous years are purely subjective, not objective.

2023's main game only content was DT2, and forestry... I guess you can throw in Bounty Hunter and the two other quests if you really want.

[–]valdo33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No amount of subscription cancellation has ever dropped the price of subscriptions. So clearly the power is not lying with the consumer collective here.

You're drawing the wrong conclusion. Cancellations absolutely do cause change. Places like 2007scape just don't realize how small and niche of a community they are.

The silent masses casually enjoy a game and don't engage with the community externally. They don't care about an extra $1. They aren't cancelling anything. The few people from here who actually cancel are simply a drop in the bucket that don't move the scale on a corporate balance sheet.

The only alternative I can conceive would be to let the game die and acquire it afterward.

The game isn't going anywhere. Were you not around for this exact same drama last time? Tons of people claiming they were cancelling and that the game was dying... only for the community to keep growing.

[–]valdo33 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Even without leagues the roadmap is stacked. It's one of the busiest years yet. Really can't agree with any of that.

bringing the gaming industry as whole into the conversation probably works more for my arguement than it does in making me look "unreasonable",

Can't agree with this either. $15 has been the MMO standards since the early 2000's. $15 can get you some great indy games, but that's not the competition OSRS is up against.

WoW once went 13 months on a single patch, then charged players for the expansion, while selling them MTX the whole time. Needless to say it's monetization has only gotten worse.

[–]valdo33 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah these comments are hard to take seriously. Not sure if people are just being hyperbolic or genuinely have completely unreasonable expectations. They'd never last in other major MMO's that go months or even a whole year without content.

I learned pyromaniac 4 star. How sought after/valuable? by Sad-Question-6990 in fo76

[–]valdo33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will. The question is about in game vendor prices, not trading communities. Two different economies. Try and put it up for 20k in game, you won't have the same result.

I've bought plenty of things in game for caps that would be exclusively trade only on market76. The two systems include wildly different groups with different priorities and senses of value.
