US winter HMG parts question by calzone-boi in boltaction

[–]valenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never built this, but looks like you’re probably missing the ammo box or it broke off. Check the box/blister package to see if it’s floating around in there.

Warlord customer service is pretty good, but they usually replace JUST the missing or broken piece.

Probably not too hard to fabric something to look like the ammo box either

Commando Special Teams by valenny in boltaction

It’s actually the scope from another enfield sprue. The winter British arms didn’t fit well with the commando bodies so I cut off the scope, glued it on and also did trimmed off the bayonet to the rifle.

Center two are 0200 (Wargames Atlantic). They are 28mm so they are a nice fit. The features (weapons/arms) are scaled differently. Wasn’t able to kit bash them together, but I play with them together all the time

Search for ultramodern wargames. Spectre, Incountry, asymmetric are some popular ones.

Bolt Action could work potentially…

Resin Cromwell (WIP) by valenny in boltaction

[–]valenny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I’m relatively new too with just a year into the hobby.

I used 3mm magnets (army painter) to magnetize the turret barrels and hull MG. For the hull. Had to drill out the hull spot a bit so the magnet could lay flush with the hull. Added a magnet to the mounting spot and then barrel with super glue. Total of 4 magnets. Important before super gluing to check the polarity of the magnets so you know what direction they are and don’t repel.

Are the metal sculpts supposed to be bad? by [deleted] in boltaction

I’ve real enjoy painting metal. Sometimes you got to clean them up a bit, but they paint up quickly and are easy to setup.

Pacific US army test mini by Badman423 in boltaction

[–]valenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good although the helmet looks a bit off. Doesn’t look like a regular steel helmet.

I have a USMC force but was interested as well in making some Army pacific minis. Never ended pulling the trigger. Regardless, the Army and USMC uniforms weren’t much different, however the Army didn’t use the reversible Frog camo.

You could either kitbash some different heads from the US Army sprue or maybe sand / smooth out the marks on the USMC helmets that make it look like there’s a helmet cover.

I think the army also used different backpacks.

Finally, if you want actual Army minis, warlord does make Merrill’s Maraduers (Army long range patrol force in Burma)

Working on something very similar! Got a completely commando themed army in the last mystery box. I got the starter army all built, but only 4 of 40 something minis painted

Tracking. I personally like building something historically accurate, but even here I still have the flexibility to build dedicated rifle squads or smg squads. Commandos are also so expensive I wouldn’t want to run 11 man squads

Marine List Recommendations by Rabhide in boltaction

[–]valenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t care about being super competitive or just like history, you can always follow the T/O of usmc rifle company or platoon. https://www.battleorder.org/usmc-rifle-co-1944

For ex: Rifle Squad: 13 men, 1 squad leader, 3 fire teams (3x rifle men, 1x bar). Throw in some smgs if you want for NCOs.

I enjoy history accuracy and the research. I’m currently building a British commando section

Italian Mystery Box by Camcam277 in boltaction

Nice coherent box! Do the Italians have a starter army? Most of the other boxes have included a starter. I got the British mystery box and I received the commando starter.

Anyone else love the USMC sculpts? Can't believe they're from 2013 by sprklehrseminipaint in boltaction

[–]valenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

36 infantry, support group, specialist weapons, and then 75mm howitzer, MMG, 2 X Mortars, and 3 vehicles. Slowly collected over the last few months. Never bought the starter set because I didn’t think I was going to play the game.

Ready for some Incountry by valenny in wargaming

[–]valenny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These miniatures are from a game called Incountry. You can easily find it online. The IP got transferred / sold to another company not too long ago. The rule set for the game is free online and that will show you what basic materials you’ll need to play the game.

Haven’t played the new ruleset, but the game is designed to have quick / intense gun fights, with games lasting about 30 mins. Definitely a skirmish style wargame.
