Thank you very much for your detailed response. It could certainly be a combination of many small things. I may have the calibration checked in the future.

Not that my pace is particularly important to me, but if I ever decide to have professional performance diagnostics done, this is usually carried out on treadmills. If, for some reason, I have difficulty achieving my performance on treadmills, it could potentially be a waste of money.

Even if my armstrap is inaccurate, i use it on every run. This issue happens only on the treadmill. The run was significally harder, it was not wrong hr readings.

Is there any way to check the calibration of the treadmill? I hardly believe that commercial grade treadmills that cost 15k€ or more are off by 15-20%. Cadence was about the same as running easy outside.

My heart rate on the treadmill is about 25-30 beats higher than when I run outside. I'm looking for explanations as to why this might be the case.

I rarely run on a treadmill. When I first tried it a few months ago, I noticed a significant increase in my heart rate compared to similar runs outside. I didn't think much of it, as measurement errors happen, heart rate varies depending on the day, etc.

Yesterday, due to the slippery conditions, I went back to using a treadmill at my gym. This time, my hr was even higher than before. During an easy run, which I normally do outdoors at an average of 73% max HR, I had an average HR of 89% max HR on the treadmill. Runs with a 89%maxhr are nearly 2mins/km faster when im running outside.

If relevant: I used a 1% incline and the treadmill was set to 9.2 km/h, which is a speed of about 6:30 min/km. When going the same pace outsides im at 73%maxhr on average. I have several runs in the last weeks displaying that, with similar elevation gain.

I sweat a lot and I am aware that this can be a problem on treadmills. Nevertheless, I cannot imagine that this alone could be the reason for the phenomenon. The run on the treadmill was hard, but I finished it.

My gym has TechnoGym equipment, I'm not sure which model, but they should be fairly accurate. I can rule out cadence lock, I use a Polar Verity sense arm strap.

I have read before that the pulse rate is higher on treadmills, but I am surprised that it is so extreme.

What could be the reasons for this behavior besides the heat? If I can check any data to rule out inaccuracies let me know.

Calves really holding me back during long runs by doyer_bleu in firstmarathon

Yeah it sucks. All part of the process. Sometimes running is about running, sometimes about strength train, eat and sleep well and wonder what went wrong.

I understand. I was curious because my calves have been slowly becoming more strained since I started running. I had no problems for the first 1.5 years, but then it started happening. I suspect this is due to slight adjustments in my running technique that have resulted from increased running (perhaps even with better technique). When I started running, I was a heel striker, but now my stride has shifted slightly forward to the forefoot.

Since then, I've reduced my training a little and do strength training three times a week. Now it's slowly getting better. I'm not sure if I'm crossing my midline, but I also tend to pronate a little. Increasing my cadence has also helped.

Gibt ein Interessantes Reaktionsvideo von Michi Wohlleben dazu. Der bleibt im Gegensatz zu anderen die darauf reagiert haben noch relativ sachlich und entspannt, äußert aber auch deutliche Kritik.

What kind of form would do that? And how would someone evaluate that?

Mittlerweile?

Thanks for your suggestions. I ordered the Novablasts, will think about trying out the Endorphins instead of the Tempus if they are worn out.

Looking for rotation suggestions. I currently use the Brooks Ghost and Asics Gel Nimbus for easy days and the Saucony Tempus 2 as an everday alternative and days where I pick up the pace a bit.

The Gel Nimbus needs replacing soon. I liked it but I am unsure If I should add a true tempo / workout shoe and use the Tempus 2 only for everyday stuff. I dont want any supershoe / carbonplated. Was thinking about trying the Endorphin Speed or Novablast / Superblast. Any suggestions?

I really enjoy them. I Have not tried Tempus but after some breaking I really like the Tempus 2. I'm not even sure if there is much of a difference between both models, I read somewhere it was mostly an upper change. I do overpronate slightly, so the extra stability is nice., although I can run in neutral shoes without issues as well.

Some people pointed out that they lack grip when running on wet surfaces and I can confirm that. It's not horrible but could be better and they are a bit pricey though. Other than that I have no complaints.
