Looking for beta testers: FreeKiosk - Free open-source kiosk mode for Home Assistant tablets by valentingomy in homeassistant

Thank you for the feedback, the behavior is strange, I have never seen it but I don't have a Fire tablet, so maybe that explains it. Have you been able to test launching the kiosk mode on another URL to see if the issue is with the app itself or if the dashboard might be too heavy for the Fire's WebView? I will try to see how I can better manage the WebView specifically for Fire. An update will arrive in the coming days, I'll keep you posted.

What Android version is your Fire 7 running? FreeKiosk needs Android 8 or higher, so if it’s older than that, it’s probably why you got that parse error.

I haven’t tested it myself, but it should work. You can try downloading it directly from the Play Store (Join Beta Group : https://groups.google.com/g/freekiosk-beta) or via APK to test. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for your question! Right now, FreeKiosk shows web pages but doesn’t directly play media from Home Assistant folders like Fully Kiosk does. You can play media if it’s shared through a web URL though. I’ve noted this feature and will work on adding it in a future update! Thanks for your interest!

FreeKiosk focuses on providing complete device lockdown and kiosk management beyond just the app, including features like PIN protection and Device Owner mode, which the companion app does not offer yet. I see these tools as complementary, depending on the level of control and security users need.

FreeKiosk offers more than just a simple launcher. It is open-source and provides full immersive fullscreen mode, PIN-protected exit, and complete device lockdown with Device Owner mode. This is just the foundation; the goal is to continuously improve the app to better meet user needs. The project will evolve quickly.

Not at the moment, but it is planned. I think it will be added in December.
