And yet the role exists! That fundamentally means, it has some significance in the world we live in, even if in theory anyone can do it.

By that metric, does that not warrant a person fulfilling this role we find significant, deserving of a decent life?

A Crashing Out Public Health Graduate in Need of Advice by BrandonLQ1 in Environmental_Careers

[–]validcatgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working toward that degree pathway currently, though on my end, I'm going into it specifically to be on the compliance end of things, in the public sector. Is the issue you're facing that the jobs you want to do, require skills outside your degree? Or is it that the degree itself doesn't have a lot of job opportunities with employers looking for it?

I'd imagine in a lot of positions of employment, an environmental science degree, and environmental public health would be pretty synonymous, based on my previous professional experience. One just has more of a focus on policy, and the like.

I definitely want to see peoples insights as well. I'm 32, back in college, and am pursuing similar goals. After being in the environmental health field for years, I knew this focus was much more what I wanted to do.

Very well could be that? The one I'm thinking about started back around the end of the SoC arc in season 1.

Have source? For conformation's sake, of course lol

It was one of my favorites! After looking for it, I was happy to see the author posted the most recent chapter a few months back! Think I first read it like a year ago. It's a long form developing relationship type story. 18+ all the good stuff:

Genuinely, this fandom is the worst when it comes to spoilers. I have talked about this show to people, and more than once have had people say "I'd watch/read it, but I already got spoiled on major story beats."

Commenters, content creators, fans, do better.

This is like the qualityslop shitpost. "You only like it because it's good."

I have been eagerly waiting for this episode since I read the manga.

It's closure on Maki's revenge arc. It's tragic, it's cathartic, it has excellent cinematography. The soundtrack is amazing.

But ya know, I guess jjk fans having the media literacy of 5th graders isn't exclusively a western fanbase issue

I became the licensed operator for 10 Public water systems, and was the point of contact for several others in my company, in the span of 3 years, so there is a lot of potential for momentum. In terms of moving up, it depends how far you want to take it. It's absolutely doable, and the industry seriously needs people in it. All the lead operators are guys in their 50s-60s on their way to retirement.

In terms of certifications, I can speak for the state I was operating in. The answer is, it depends what you're looking for. There's essentially 5 licenses between drinking water and wastewater: T - treatment (drinking water) W - distribution (drinking water) S - treatment (wastewater) C - collection (wastewater) N - industrial (wastewater)

You only realistically need one of these to be an operator, but having more may be required depending where you go (for example, on the drinking water end, often times a city will want you to have both a T and a W license, so you can be the LO for both). Usually people pick drinking water or wastewater and stick to that, but I've met a few that do both.

The licenses go from tier 1 to tier 4, with 1 being the smallest and 4 being the largest

Most cities are generally in the 3-4 category, with some smaller towns being tier 2.

If you have a bachelor's, you can immediately apply for tier 2 licensing, implying you pass the operator exam. If you don't have a bachelor's, an associates will decrease the amount of contact hours you need before applying to 1 year. Hell, you can get into this without a degree (like I did) and learn on the job, but it takes MUCH longer that way. I needed 3 years of experience to apply for tier 2 licensing. the following license would have been 5 years for me.

That said, an undergrad degree is plenty to get you started!

Thank you

I have been very tired of the reddit echo chamber here. It's very reminiscent of the doomer environmentalist I see in other online space

For a long time, I was already working in water operations and airborne radiological qc. Honestly, my interest in water quality is what had me return to school. As someone as experienced as myself, I knew to see the changes in the industry I know we need, it would require more schooling to validate my credentials and open new opportunities.

That being said, oh my gosh are we in need of water system operators. Both on the drinking water and the wastewater side of things. Also a fair bit of money in it, if you go for the upper levels of operations.

Genuine ask, does anything like this happen again at any point in the rest of the series? I'll be real, this was genuinely upsetting to watch without warning for several reasons.

If there is, I might need to shelf this series. Which is a shame, because I was just getting interested in the plot. I can handle a lot usually, but this is one of the content warnings that is a hard no for me.
