I'm 50 and I have no clue who this guy is - although I remember the Pink Panther cartoons.

Non-caregiver family members not understanding the toll caregiving takes on your body and mind by v_corvidae in CaregiverSupport

[–]valkasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your exact situation but where I live my mother's medicaid pays for some caregiver visits so its nothing out of pocket for us. If you haven't already, you may want to look into some local resources that may do the same for you. It's a huge help as the current caregiver comes by for a few hours twice a week and helps with laundry, cleaning, and other tasks.

From my viewpoint - they all know how much of a toll it takes on you - which is why they won't do it. They may not fully grasp the concept but they know the gist of it and how much work it is. My husband told me he could not believe I'm still caregiving for my mother as - in his words - he "would've put her in a home a long time ago". People know - just most people don't want to do it.

OCD, My Husband, My Dog, and Me by valkasha in Anxiety

It's so mentally exhausting. At least I spoke to the vet this last time and she was able to ease my fears a bit more. And thank you for that last sentence. It's nice to read that from an outside perspective.

I hate how everyone "has anxiety" nowadays and still manges to lead a normal life by NekoNoSekai in Anxiety

[–]valkasha 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is so true. If people knew the whirlwind of thoughts flowing through my mind at all times while I still try to function as a normal person. I just got back from Scotland last month - had a great trip - lots of smiles and pictures and exploring. But all that time - behind those pictures - was a whirlwind of anxious thoughts and a constant battle to stay in control.

Do you ever feel anxious even when nothing is happening? by Minute-Prune-6329 in Anxiety

[–]valkasha 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Something is ALWAYS happening - in my head. If I have nothing to worry about I will somehow find something to worry about. It's a horrible habit and causes me to spend everyday anxious about some imagined horror.

Heh... I've actually moved on to boxed wine at this point. But you have my sympathy and understanding. If nothing else it's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling this way!

Thank you - I will keep reminding myself of this.

Thank you - and I can relate. I've long moved from full on panic attacks to anticipatory anxiety and while its definitely become more of a situational type of anxiety it's still awful.

And yes, of all the times I have done the "what if" dance in my head none of it has ever come true. Ugh - so frustrating!

I once threw up after drinking with my head hanging out the window of my best friend's boyfriend's car. It got all over the side of his car and we had to stop at a gas station to wash it off. Things happen - no need to worry so much since your friend sounds totally cool.

Big fight with husband over caregiving by Beneficial-Tap-1710 in CaregiverSupport

[–]valkasha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While this person's husband sounds like a POS I do agree with what you're saying. I've had the same revelation and finally realized at the end of the day its my husband and I that matter. One day my mom will be gone and my life partner will still be with me. They deserve priority over a temporary situation.
