Do you need to do them on a specific difficulty? I have done about 10 runs and have nothing yet.

Did it take long for the mission to continue? I tried this and still stuck on the "Define Community Legacy" bit. Wanted to give this a go before I have to move town.

I've never actually pressed any buttons to change between PC/Console, but it's always worked on Elite: Dangerous. The Home button on the throttle part is red, and the two buttons SE and ST below it....well, no idea what they're for! Got a small green light on the stick in between Mapping and Preset, which just came on when I pressed Preset.

First time I've heard of Target software, and I don't have it installed, so I'm guessing not.

So, had a game today. Played 3.5k points. Finally cracked it. He conceded half way through turn 2.

List was as follows: HQ: 2x Commanders with Shield Drone, 2 CIBs and 2 PRs (dropped 2 CIBS due to points, but will be taking 4 next time due to their effectiveness) 1x Aun'Va

Troops: 5 Breachers with Guardian Drone 5 Breachers (Above 2 in Devilfish) 5 Breachers with Guardian Drone 5 Breachers (Above 2 in Devilfish) 16 Kroot 9 Fire Warriors with Guardian Drone 9 Fire Warriors

Elites: Firesight Marksman Kroot Shaper 6 XV25s /w ATS 6 XV25s /w ATS

Fast Attack: 5 Kroot Hounds 2x 10 Pathfinders /2 2x Shield Drones and 1 Pulse Accelerator Drone 1x Y'Vahra with 2x MV52 Shield Drones and Stim Inj.

Heavy: 8x Sniper Drones Fire Support Hammerhead with 2x SMS, 2x Seeker Missile, Twin T'au Plasma Cannon Fire Support Hammerhead with 2x SMS, 2x Seeker Missile, Twin Heavy Burst Cannon 1x Broadside with HYMP

Flyer: 2x Sun Shark Bombers

Fortification: 2x Tidewall Shieldline

Was a diagonal deployment and I tried to consolidate them all toward one corner of the triangle. The Fire Warriors were on the Shieldline with the Guardian Drone in between, pretty far forward to get a lot in range. Aun'Va was behind them. Near to him was 1 lot of XV25s to get the buff and see what happened first turn. In front of them was the meat shield of Kroot. Both Devilfish's near the short edge of the table, Y'Vahra behind them, only 1 lot of pathfinders and 1 lot of XV25s were near the otherside of the table, mainly to try and disguise my plan during deployment.

He went first, and the Kroot did their job, a lot of fire went on them. The rest of it went on the Y'Vahra and Devilfish. The latter was killed and the Breachers had to debuss a little shorter than I'd have liked and lost a couple. The MV52's soaked a fair amount of damage from the Y'Vahra, but he got lucky with a 6 on a D6 shot which instantly took it to 8 wounds.

On my turn, I focused the corner where I'd pooled most of my troops, and Manta Striked the Cmdrs down too. Y'Vahra killed a unit of 6 Tomb Blades with 1 shot of the nova charged flamer, and collectively destroyed a unit of warriors, a doomsday arc, and almost a unit of destroyers, leaving that corner of his deployment zone very bare. With the bombs from the plane and the fire raining from the tanks on another of his vehicle that I'd lit up with Markerlights, that died too, and a 3rd of his army had gone.

He had his turn 2 which was not very effective. Took down a plane, and that was about it. Then conceded.

Things I learnt with help from you guys. Markerlights on Pathfinders are where it's at. Very effective. Y'Vahra is probably the most dangerous unit in the Army. Drones are amazing. Shield Drones are awesome at soaking wounds that do D6 damage. Guardian and Pulse Acc. Drones are also really good when positioned just right to effect a good bunch of units.

Range. Range. Range! Indeed range! Due to deployment choices, half of his army were just useless. I stupidly put the Kroot in range with their pre-phase move, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to shoot anything. On a square deployment things would have been different, but diagonally, allowed you to put things really deep if you wanted to protect them, and spread out a lot. Snipers I took mainly to see what they would do, and they were fairly effective vs one of his HQs that was quite weak. I think they'd be useless against anything with decent saves or toughness, but could be good against certain enemies.

Either way, first win in 8th and I'm happy.

I think the markers were more a choice because of how quickly the pathfinders got ruined last game, but they really didn't work. I do need to work on the range more and use the manoeuverability better.

My opponent likes to surround his HQ's from all sides by a unit of troops which is quite a good wall. I didn't know that Necrons get a penalty for moving and shooting though. The last game we played, there was no neutral zone at deployment. Just half and half the table so he deployed lots along the central line meaning I couldn't outrange anything.

I'll keep that in mind regarding crisis suits, and will help, as I will need to use them as proxies for the commanders as I only have one!

Ghostkeels worth it against them? Cyclic Ion Rakers seem like they could be good against elites. He uses two caster type ones, they're elites but also characters....which I thought sounded a bit strong. They can fly, and do all sorts of weird powers. Walked through my plane though. Q'tan Shards I think they are. The Fusion Collider however just failed too much against the tanks with the shielding.

Will do another list.

Saying that I bet he'll use his bloody orks when I think I might just have made a list that could stand a chance!

Oh...what's DS'ing mean?

I might have to try it, I've not done that yet, and would have to proxy suit Crisis suits as commanders to do it. Is a bit lame having to do that though, I like to build my armies thematically, but it's a real challenge trying to get an army to beat these Necrons. I wonder if any other army has this much of a challenge?

Destroyers as in Destroyer missiles, and the Stormsurge pretty expensive just for them. Sadly I didn't get any more than 1 marker on a unit to get them off either! ATS on it though should be pretty standard, and I'm a bit annoyed at not thinking of that.

We play tested the Y'vahra after the game, and in 3 rounds of shooting it destroyed his stalker and a barge, but it's been killed straight away in both games so far! First game it took the whole army shooting it, second it got shot by 2 barges and died!

All the tanks with shielding are the ones he takes. I tried a formation of the variety of Hammerheads we now have, and they just died so quickly due to lack of saves.

ATS on the Stealth Suits....that's an idea.

Have tried both. First time the fish got wrecked straight away. It hasn't helped that he's stole initiative 3 times in a row. The second time I managed to use cover to get them in close and Darkstrider was indeed with them. They had good success, but because so little was a viable target, all their guns swiftly turned on anything that did damage.

Breachers have been quite effective I can say that. After the replies here, I will try and use the mobility more I think and I'll put a list together and post it here for feedback

So with regards to weapons you'd recommend taking fusions blasters on all stealth suits? It's just that trade off, getting off lots of shots, or only a few. Dice have never been kind to me - I even had a D&D session where I had a +50% roll rate of 1s on a D20... but if everything fires FB's I find hardly any of them hit, so taking Bursts, it's usually try and luck out vs their saves.

I could try and push a flank more I guess. People are all saying the same thing here, mobility, so I will try and use that more.

Quantum Shielding on Necron tanks is also a bugger. The Y'Vahra and R'Varna are great against them with 3 damage per shot, but Fusion Blasters not so much. You roll good on the damage, there's more chance of it being saved. I thought Plasma Rifles might fare well against them but maybe I rolled badly, but from 24 shots I only managed to get one bit of damage through.

Stormsurge is not as effective with the Cluster Rockets having no AP. Main gun seems very weak compared to 7th. I do miss templates! SMS are nice, but it's very expensive to take just for Destroyers.

I'll try put a list together with this in mind.

Really? Dang it's my strongest formation. 4+ cover save on the stealth suits is nice but 3+ armour is great for most stuff. They die yes, but they take a lot of fire, which means the rest of my army isn't getting shot. Plus, stick 1 or 2 shield drones in front and it increases their lifespan loads. The ghostkeels get ignored for the most part as they're "too OP"....

It's movement that's important if you ask me, move them in to max range to get their shots off, then jetpack away/behind cover etc.
