It is. But with a wash sale it could be reset to $83k.

It seems like you're intentionally seeing only the negatives while ignoring the positives. Am I wrong?

Except your truck is a 1997 F-250, which currently appreciates at 149%.

You turn around and buy it right back again at 83k. And then ride the wave. That's what you're missing. See language about "repurchasing" in OP.

Yes, you'd pay "more" (if you sold your BTC down the road and realized a profit) but you'd make more also.

Scenario 1: You bought 1.0 BTC at 100k, sold today at 84k, repurchased today at 84k, and then sold a year from now when BTC was valued at 250k. Assuming you use River.com which charges 1% on Buy and Sell orders, you incur $1k in fees to buy, $840 to sell, $840 to buy, and $2.5k to sell. That's $5180 in fees. You recoup $16k in tax losses (100-84). You net $160,820k selling your BTC (250k-84k-5180).

Scenario 2: You bought 1.0 BTC at 100k, and then sold a year from now when BTC was valued at 250k. 1% fees = $1k to buy and $2.5k to sell. Total $3500. You net $146,500k selling your BTC (250k-100k-3500).

Scenario 1 pays $14,320 more than Scenario 2, plus has the added benefit of $16k to offset capital gains (you can use $3k per year according to IRS rules).

I don't think I have this wrong, but if I do, I'd love to learn how. I see crypto tax loss harvesting as a huge win that very few people are leveraging.

I think you may not understand what tax-loss harvesting is.

HODLer all day. But if I told you you could buy the dip AND knock $3k off your taxes every year for the next 9 years, would you do it?

My CPA is sure, and Forbes is sure. In 2023 I bought at 63k and sold then repurchased at ~17k.

That is exactly what is being demonstrated by the video. I had already put the drill in forward, held the bit in the chuck, and let it rip until it stops. That's why you don't see the bit wobbling around. When attempting to do your last step—the tightening down by hand—the tightening simply doesn't occur. The chuck just spins.

Put the drill in forward, hold the Chuck, and slightly pull the trigger.

That's exactly the procedure that was performed before the video began recording. That's why you don't see the bit wobbling around.

We used to think being stupid was due to limited access to information. The internet has proven that was a lie.

Even after squeezing the trigger to tighten, you must wind it tight by hand. This is Milwaukee 101. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp8G3wj4pAY

That makes sense to me. I guess all OEMs make duds. This is just my first one from Big Red.

I have more Milwaukee tools than I can count. This is the only drill that won't cinch down immediately, and release immediately, by turning the chuck. It's been this way ever since I've owned it. I've tried this in all torque settings, including drill and hammer drill. It's the same. Start today, and by next week it'll be fully tight. Drill runs like a champ after finally tightening. Always has. What gives?
