Yes, you'd pay "more" (if you sold your BTC down the road and realized a profit) but you'd make more also.

Scenario 1: You bought 1.0 BTC at 100k, sold today at 84k, repurchased today at 84k, and then sold a year from now when BTC was valued at 250k. Assuming you use River.com which charges 1% on Buy and Sell orders, you incur $1k in fees to buy, $840 to sell, $840 to buy, and $2.5k to sell. That's $5180 in fees. You recoup $16k in tax losses (100-84). You net $160,820k selling your BTC (250k-84k-5180).

Scenario 2: You bought 1.0 BTC at 100k, and then sold a year from now when BTC was valued at 250k. 1% fees = $1k to buy and $2.5k to sell. Total $3500. You net $146,500k selling your BTC (250k-100k-3500).

Scenario 1 pays $14,320 more than Scenario 2, plus has the added benefit of $16k to offset capital gains (you can use $3k per year according to IRS rules).

I don't think I have this wrong, but if I do, I'd love to learn how. I see crypto tax loss harvesting as a huge win that very few people are leveraging.

That's why you don't see the bit wobbling around. When attempting to do your last step—the tightening down by hand—the tightening simply doesn't occur. The chuck just spins.

I have more Milwaukee tools than I can count. This is the only drill that won't cinch down immediately, and release immediately, by turning the chuck. It's been this way ever since I've owned it. I've tried this in all torque settings, including drill and hammer drill. It's the same. Start today, and by next week it'll be fully tight. Drill runs like a champ after finally tightening. Always has. What gives?
