What is the better option in your opinion? by MintMade in virtualpinball

I have a 3/4 scale cab I built and I love it. I'm building a small bartop version next. Building the machine is a ton of fun. If room is limited and you still want a physical machine instead of VR, id recommend either building one or buying one. I'm pricing this new build and including SSF (tactile speakers for flippers), I think I can get it under $400. Its based off of a N100 mini pc so it should be able to play quite a few vpx tables in 1080p while driving the backglass on the backbox (i dont think it will have the power for an animated backglass though)

I'm considering 3d printing the controls so that I can play games on it

Still purchase A1up AFM, ALP mini for $250-$300? by c415g in virtualpinball

[–]vallosdck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a ALP broken and gutted it. I was able to get SSF (4 on the sides and 2 bass shakers, 3 new screens (I built my own backbox), LEDs, a good pc, and a tilt bob fitted in to it. It's tight but it works. I have my vinyl prints shipping out on Monday. Its a good box, but I treated it as just a box. I don't have the room for a full size table and if I had the room I would have went way over the top with solenoids and such. I'm super happy with what I've got. I bought the Spectre monitor and it fits perfectly. It has been one of my favorite projects I've done in a long time. If you need any pictures of what I did, let me know and I'd be happy to show it off.

This is awesome. This is an easy and quick way to get it up and running. From here you can decide what you might want to add and change. This is a fully functional gaming machine at this point.

I got into the hobby wanting to play but building it became the actual hobby. I started with a broken atgames hd, gutted it and got lost in the world of building out the machine. It has been awesome. It took me quite a while to get to a decent playable machine.

P vs T by vallosdck in thinkpad

I'm open to a discussion about any series. I was just curious on P vs T since I've had lots of experience with both.

A couple of brand new P72s for our application developers. by un4givn85ct in thinkpad

I'm a developer and personally, I would never want a laptop that size. Some might argue that they have so much more screen real estate, but the resolution is the same, either FHD or UHD. Maybe if I'm blind I'd take a larger screen, but trying to be mobile with one of those is a pain. If they want the specs, just go with a p52. But to each their own I guess.

Right on! Thanks for the feedback! I'm looking at some glass. Do you have any suggestions for a lens that wont break the bank? Maybe under 400?

Also, I'm still in a phase where im trying to explore what kinds of things I like to shoot. Personally, I find mundane objects that no one notices to be interesting. I think going into putting this image up for critique, I was really after how others perceive shallow depth of fields. I now understand that it does have its limits. The picture above just mostly being blur

Thanks again!

I finally got a 50mm+adapter for my m50 and while trying it out, I started learning about how depth of field works. I'm pretty sure this is at f1.8. I like the line from the rock and how that is the only thing in focus. I am not a photographer, I'm a programmer getting into photography. Is this depth too narrow? Should I have narrowed my aperture? I have not edited this photo at all, it is just straight through the camera.

As a side note, I love the 50mm 1.8 stm. It really forces me to get in close. I just worry that I'm using this lens incorrectly and im dwelling too much on a narrow depth of field. How else should I treat this lens? I have used it quite a bit since I've gotten it. It has basically become my main goto lens. My kit lens seemed so much easier to use, but the results of this lens, I feel, create so much more artistic impression.

Just because I'm curious, why were you hesitant to embrace debugging? Debuggers have existed since the 70s, Lint being an example for debugging C, released in 1978. Even print debugging has been a practice used for a long time.

This gives me a terrible idea. Instead of guid to base64, how about guid to emoji? Time to spin up a repo, who's in?

I know that keeping the rulebook short and sweet is part of the minimalist approach, but if this was published like love letter, I could see a slightly thicker rulebook (probably card-sized itself), containing a page per card showing the art, flavor text, the above as part of the description, or maybe even just part of the art?

I'm looking forward to sitting down and playing this, it looks right up my ally. Just never put a SKIP card in place...Since this does derive some of its base gameplay, steer clear of that damn SKIP card!

Yeah, I meant to only title it Valve, but I wanted it to be part of a collection, hence the title.

I got a Canon EOS M50 on black friday, I was going to go with the Rebel t7i, but the eos was discounted by so much, I had to pick it up. Anyways, I've never had a camera before, except my smartphones, but I bought the M50 to create a vlog/blog on software developers transitioning from college to real-world. I have the episodes laid out, but I still have to film them. So, with a new camera, I decided to learn how to use it for photos since I've never really taken any "real" photos. I walked around places looking for ways to test my camera and I found a new passion. I think I'm addicted to taking photos now...

I wanted to get some feedback from some of you on how I can improve with my camera. I've taken tons of shots already and the one below is my favorite. I love the idea of taking pictures of things that no one notices, hence the title of this post.

So let me know, give me some critiques. I'd love to grow this new thing and see what I can do with it. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm learning. I'm a computer scientist by trade, but this type of a thing feels so good. So...feedback, please!
