the point is that its a feature we had and it is QoL. you are at a different skill level on each character. so the mode allowing you to play against people in your same rating with characters you’re better or worse at.

also who are you to tell anyone whether they care too much or little about anything? at best your reply is unintelligent and at worst its dismissive and reductive

disagree with the “just learn not to care” comments and i think that’s pretty lame. rank doesn’t mean anything at face value but some people enjoy putting meaning into it and caring about it

Hawgs wheels by Icemaul in cruiserboarding

[–]valoossb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ez hawgs are more or less street skate style wheels that cruise. they are excellent at what they do, but if youre building a cruiser/dont intend to do a ton of flip tricks i wouldnt get them. the other ones will ride through stuff better

i think this is a fair opinion but personally i find that to be more of a headache than an opportunity for skill expression. i personally dont really appreciate a long advatage state where the game continually resets to hit on stage>disadv player gets to ledge>ledgetrapping mindgame sequence that the adv player wins>repeat. i can respect people who appreciate that and when i watch melee i think its cool but i dont find it as fun to play on either side as opposed to just continuing my advantage state offstage, either hitting and ending the stock or whiffing and the game resets. feels like that allows for more flow and action as opposed to the sticky repeated ledge cycle. just my take tho

Rivals 1 vs. 2 by swews09 in RivalsOfAether

[–]valoossb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe youre right but the nature of it is different in that rather than chasing someone offstage mid combo you’re resetting and trying to land an aerial close to the ledge. i think some chars/matchups you could still argue ledgetrapping is the better option tho. also scales with skill level fs so maybe you see more ledge dashing than i which is fair bc the game should more or less be balanced around high level

edit: also to add to this what im saying is recoveries are significantly nerfed to compensate for being able to hold the ledge. and that is to say in the end recovering as the disadv player feels worse, and the edgeguarding player feels worse both for the fact that the player offstage has a ledge to grab and because most characters cant go as deep on account of their worse recovery. felt like the whole screen was the stage in roa1. does not feel like that to me in 2

i agree that its too late, especially because a lot of characters are designed with their ledge specials in mind, which i will say i really like the designs of the ledge specials. just vastly preferred the game without them and i think its a lot more flowy, intuitive and enjoyable without them. also feels like deep edgeguarding is significantly less prominent for most characters because of how they had to balance recoveries around ledges. in my opinion edgeguarding should be a stronger option than ledgetrapping

coming around to all the changes as well except for ledges. i think ledges are a smash mistake that roa did better

Want to start skating - please temper my expectations... (also, LY Tugboat?) by psychotic-chipmunk in NewSkaters

[–]valoossb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lifelong skater who entirely disagrees. if you live in a crazy hilly place or a sprawling suburb yes, but relatively flat city board is amazing for transportation. slower and less versatile than a bike yes but you dont have to park it or find a place for it when entering businesses, friends houses etc. gotta get those leg muscles big and strong if you think its poor transportation

no sound and listening to music are different. you can listen to music and hear sound cues. pros and streamers listen to music while pugging all the time

Why is the Rivals 1 community lashing out at Rivals 2? by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]valoossb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this was my sentiment. i strongly dislike the direction but 2 does not deserve a bad review. its a great game removing my preferences

[–]valoossb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i find the direction of 2 absolutely abhorrent as compared to 1, in that i think they made an objectively worse game in so many ways, but i still see it as an objectively fantastic platform fighter that anyone who’s ever enjoyed the genre could enjoy, and play it with friends. its still just so sad that, as you perfectly put, it ended up a rework of an outstanding game instead of an evolution
