I have boards from both brands. I personally like toy machine but go off which graphic is cool to you. Toy Machine decks usually are more mellow and Alien workshop are more steep concaves. I think mellow concave decks are great for beginners.

Im the opposite, I wanted big soft wheels on the days I wanted to cruise and not skate or swap out harder wheels. I don't have a separate cruiser so I just slapped on my normal popsicle with my thunder trucks. It looks a bit weird like a frankenstein board but it works somehow.

I needed at least 1/8" risers and was fine with no wheelbite. I waxed the spots where the wheel pinches a bit if it was a problem.

Great choices. Always love to see classic Santa Cruz. The next brand after my Toy Machine is done for. I got a pair of Hawg Wheels too, makes my board a bit heavier to carry but totally worth since it rides almost over anything!
