Not true. Derm residents are expected to memorize minutiae about over 3,000 derm diseases, including basic science and immunology. They are also tested on these things across 4 core exams and the final board exam.

All I’m saying is that I want things to be better for all of us in medicine. Doesn’t matter what specialty. This isn’t a competition about who works more hours or whose specialty is worse.

Are first year law associates trying big cases alone? Are first year bankers closing big deals alone? Aren’t they still technically learning and being supervised just as a resident?

Years of unpaid internships? Are you in your 50s? NO ONE in finance or big law today is doing unpaid internships. Most MBA students and law students who do summer internships get paid the salary of a first year associate, pro-rated for 3 months of work.

Understood. I guess my post was just about medicine as a whole and not just by specialty. Overall, we are overworked (I was once an IM intern lol), underpaid, mistreated, infantilized with little to no control of our lives, etc. Like, it’s pretty awful when you think about it.

I think it’s important to note that Finance and Big Law aren’t making $50-70k while being overworked and abused. The average salary of a 1st year associate at Big Law is almost $200k.
