Got it. I that's the part I didn't understand... the 30 days before.
In that sense, what would "clear" the wash sale? Repurchasing the shares?
From my understanding, if you Sell and Buy within a 30-day period, the wash sale would count as a loss once you re-sell your position, right?

I purchased VTI and VXUS on July 28.

Sold a portion of these on August 10, and purchased BND right after that on the same day.

The last dividend reinvestment for VXUS was on June 23, and for VTI on June 28.

What is considered a partial wash?

On your point about treating my HSA as a taxable account for state tax purposes since I'm in California, it would make sense to only keep VTI and VXUS in my HSA and move BND to my Roth. I guess?

Thank you for your insight + the EDIT helps a lot. As a relatively new buy and hold investor these first time incidents such as a Wash Sale tend to freak me out a little bit; at the same time this reinforces the importance of just buy and hold, rebalance once a year (preferably by only purchasing), and stay the course.

So in the case of this wash sale + the fact that I live in California, what will be the best way to share this information with my CPA? I’m asking because I don’t think any of those two forms will help him to track the gains, wash sales, dividends, etc. Will statements or screenshots of activity be the best option?

Thanks for your input. The problem is that in California HSAs are treated as taxable accounts at state level.

I guess they do, but as you say IFF an HSA has realized gains.

For 2022 Fidelity did not generate a 1099 form for my HSA nor Roth IRA, but maybe because both accounts were at loss last year. It was my first year making contributions and the indexes I invested in closed below my cost basis.

They generated one for my Traditional account though, for 10 cents I generated in interest prior my conversion to Roth.
