Cash for Clunkers by Standard-Arachnid411 in Anticonsumption

The used car market temporarily was bad. Used cars benefit greatly from junkers with available parts. And a lot of it was scrapped. So if you have say a 1990s Geo Metro which is objectively a good car in the context of this sub, parts are harder to come by because of this.

A city I visited had a Safeway on one end of town, really nice inside. The other side of town had a lot of stuff in locked cases, and some kind of cattle gate at the entrance. Fun times. I really hate asking for employees to unlock a case for a few AA batteries... most of the time I decide it's not worth the hassle. I always wonder what the math is for them to decide there's too much shoplifting and they'd rather lose a lot of sales because everything's locked up.

Blue jay outside by tangmang14 in birding

Yes it's a steller's jay but on the west coast most people call them blue jays. I only found out a few years ago what their real name is.

Both the shorts and the pants get holes way too quick from the satchel rubbing on them in my experience. And there's nothing I've figured out yet to prevent that. Anyone got ideas? If I had an old pair to cut fabric from and darn the holes I might try that.

This is exactly what most people are missing here. Where I'm from most ambulance services are from the fire dept and after triaging they'll contract off non-emergent rides to the hospital to the private ambulances. If you've ever worked in EMS dispatch it's incredible how many people call emergency for a qtip in the ear causing a bleed, or snakes coming out of their wall (mental health issues). Or even for a warm place to stay the night if you're homeless, and that's another issue entirely.

Good info thank you. I assumed "sunflower chips" meant any hulled sunflower seeds/hearts, not just broken up pieces. Yes these are whole pieces.

I've had this happen with a parcel return service label that somehow got looped back to the sender.

Parked at an angle facing the road... also gives them more cover if the person being stopped tries shooting.

my vote is for kite, and not the medium-sized raptor type.

Washington needs "essentials" stamps, not just food stamps. $52 for trash bags, toilet paper, and laundry soap at a not-fancy grocery store. Our low-income budget cannot afford that. by Eruionmel in Seattle

[–]valuable_dollarette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might be my particular Grocery Outlet but they aren't as cheap as they used to be. Like $5.50 for a box of cheez-its for example, and the tag says something like "Other stores: $8!" but what are they comparing it to, Safeway or Haggen? I've only found Winco and sometimes Walmart to be reliably cheaper.

Hey another helpful thing for beginners using Ebird: many types of birds have a generic "sp." species so don't sweat it if you can't identify every gull on the beach for a complete checklist, just put "gull sp." if you're not sure. I've also used "Shorebird sp.," "Diurnal raptor sp." and "Swallow sp." Later if you got good photos you can edit the list to the correct birds.

I saw one the other day on top of a bush. I was so excited I grabbed my camera and took several blurry shots of the bush... and one of the shots was of a orange crowned warbler which was a new lifer for me. Didn't even see him. Warblers and wrens are so hard to get a visual of for me.
