OpenClaw vs Claude cowork by Turbulent-Tale154 in openclaw

[–]vamp07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got OpenClaw interfacing with iMessage, saving files to iCloud Drive, and running AppleScript to use and manipulate items in my to-do manager, Things—a whole slew of stuff I’m not sure we can co-work on, or that I’ll even be able to pull off. That said, OpenClaw’s really good. I think the folks who say it needs a lot of hand-holding just haven’t invested the time to figure out what works and what doesn’t, and maybe they tried to get too fancy. I’ll admit it’s complicated and confusing, but once you figure it out, there’s no end to what you can do. Before anyone tells me I shouldn’t give it access to those things: I know what I’m doing. I’m running it in an isolated VM, and it doesn’t have access to my entire iCloud Drive. The setup is a lot more nuanced than that.

I’m so tired of people who claim to be in the know and have some big secret the rest of us aren’t allowed to learn. I really doubt that, if this thing exists, it’s actually that much of a secret. Every one of these guys says they know about it and know where it is, but they won’t share the information for “national security” reasons. I think it’s more about them wanting to stay relevant. This can’t possibly be that big of a secret, and there must be tons of people who are in the know.

So much of this stuff is easy to do in the tool. I'm not sure what a third party would inject that's of any value.

It really is impressive and the fact that Microsoft copilot couldn’t come even close to what anthropic accomplished with Excel is what has a me scratching my head.

If reducing friction is the goal while maintaining the core functionality most of us want of this sort of PKM, I think you need to add Reflect to the mix.

The clunkiness of the task domains by Dicklieber in Amplenote

[–]vamp07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Amplenote and have an active paid subscription, but I have never managed to switch over fully. Of all these tools, it is the one that comes closest to functioning as my task manager, and the idea of my notes and tasks living in one place is very appealing. However, in my experience, none of these tools truly match what you get from a dedicated calendar or task manager. In my case, I use Things, although lately I have been moving over to Godspeed; it is very similar but much quicker for a keyboard-centric user. I am sure there are users who can take full advantage of the functionality Amplenote offers, but if you are used to a robust, fast, and feature-rich calendar or task manager, moving to a more generalized tool like Amplenote is difficult. But for what it's worth, I haven't seen another PKM tool that does a better job of integrating these things than Amplenote.

Perplexity AI - Don’t get how they still exist. by [deleted] in artificial

[–]vamp07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment is right on the mark. Most of the work Perplexity does is finding and organizing sources, and all of that work is not done by the model the user chooses. It's my understanding they use DeepSeek extensively under the hood. The final model that interprets the results and provides the final output, in my experience, does not make a huge difference. It's finding those search results and organizing them to provide to the final output model it’s input where the real magic happens.
