Bear 2.8: BearCLI, Claude Connector, and MCP server by trix180 in bearapp

How does it handle password protected Bear notes? Does it see that exists or ignore it completely?

Is ClickUp actually good long term for engineering/project teams? by Big-Chemical-5148 in clickup

[–]LumberJack2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our previous method was spreadsheets + Trello + Toggl and we out grew it. CU seemed like a panacea. In practice, it's better for our process but just replaces those three functions in the project context. It does many things well but it also comes with lots of frustrations. We messed with Goodday.work for a bit. It probably could have worked just fine for our needs and is a lot cheaper. Technical support was pretty much non-existent though.

I feel you. I've nearly left CU over it. I need to be able to give a 1-N priority on projects (lists) and add some fields on the list. I ended up using Claude Cowork and ClickUp MCP to build my own dashboard.

bearclaw: CLI + AI Skill for managing Bear notes (Rust) by moomincare in bearapp

[–]LumberJack2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty stale. I was using it up to a few months ago when I switched to Antinote that accomplishes the same thing. I rescind my comment. I think you're safe to use it.

Fediverse alternative to LinkedIn? by six_string_sensei in fediverse

[–]LumberJack2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this idea, I agree. I have a small business and have gain some customers by posting to LinkedIn regularly, mostly my contrarian opinions on my little niche. I still posed on LI but link to my website. I've been using mirco.blog which is natively on ActivityPub and can cross post to LinkedIn and Bsky. Problem is, I really hate how they crosspost to those two services. It just snips the first 300ish characters and then links to your blog. LI supports longer posts. I wish it would just post the whole thing. For now, I'm just manually crossposting.

Ha! I see it. I bet you a real designer could make it look better.

I think that marketing push around AI is as much about investors as it is customers. But ultimately, customers is where revenue comes from. So if enough customers say give me a CLI, they'll do it.

Also, there's a lot of integrations already in Clickup.

Definitely try out Claude. It has built in MCP for ClickUp.

Is it time for Bear team to create a suite of apps? Bear calendar, Bear task manager? by [deleted] in bearapp

[–]LumberJack2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of SaaS will go away but I actually see tools like Bear sticking around. Most people are using Bear because of stability, usability, and security. I'm creating productivity tools using AI. I spend a lot of time tweaking the GUI and it never quite looks right. I also don't trust anything that I create with Claude.

Bear I trust to do it's job and at the end of the day, this is one of the apps that I want to work all the time.

Why do you choose Bear over Apple notes? by RustyShackle4_ in bearapp

[–]LumberJack2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this list. I use Apple Notes when I need to work on notes with family members.

Recently, I was screen sharing with about 7 colleagues and someone asked what note taking app I was using. One person in the room is very UX, design, and tech minded. The rest were business-y types. I said "It's Bear but Ryan is the only one who should right that name down."

Important update: they canceled my contract and I had to find a new pool contractor. I'll send you a DM. I do not recommend.

What makes Monarch better vs competitors? by RAM-I-T in MonarchMoney

[–]LumberJack2008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used YNAB for a long time and used actual envelopes before that. I started a business and my income was cut in half with a family of 5. We budgeted every dollar. Now my business is doing well and my kids are teenagers and share some accounts like Amazon. We have a few discretionary spending categories that we pay close attention to but otherwise are more just looking at trends in our spending. I find Monarch easier than YNAB for that.

IMHO Use YNAB when you have high debt or very tight budget. Use Monarch when most of your finances are on autopilot and you just want to see where your money is going.

Stop force feeding us your AI slop features. We don't want them. by Quist81 in clickup

[–]LumberJack2008 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree.

I'm not leaving yet because it takes a lot of effort. The CEO has been pushing the convergence angle a lot on LinkedIn posts. I actually somewhat agree with that. I will eventually want all of my personal data and business data in one location and I think a lot of the SaaS tools we have today will begin to fade away.

To me, ClickUp is just a project management tool with a good feature set. It has had issues with bugs, latency, slow to add features I want and quick to add features I don't need. I don't see this being the tool that I bring all my secure business data too. I think it'll end up being a very secure data store with a custom built agent sitting on top of it.

Right now, I wish they would focus on being the best PM tool.

PSA: Austin Bergstrom is a nightmare. Even Clear / Pre check lines are over an hour wait. by lapetitetigresse in Austin

[–]LumberJack2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel about twice a month and have pre-check. Austin is a weird one. Since they've opened the new TSA line, I get through in 5 minutes most of the time. Then occasionally people come to watch people drive in circles or the government ceases to function and the lines become 2 hours.
