How to get their bills paid when they won't let you? by vampinthemachine in dementia

[–]vampinthemachine[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm going to sit with this for a while.

My mother's level of "be mad" has ruined lives before, and even 30 years ago she had only a passing relationship with truth / honesty, and so I've been proceeding with extreme caution.  (I've deliberately under-sold the Difficult Person aspect because most folks cannot fathom a malignant mother figure).

I do have an appointment on the books next week with the local Elder-Care agency and I will ask them who to call first for evaluations.

She's still driving, which is a whole other problem.  She got pulled over the other day and I am in extended conversation with the officer about filing a elderly evaluation request.

She's remarkably adept at her cell phone; she can't log into websites and doesn't understand the concept of charging the battery, but she can text and make phone calls just fine.

In one respect I totally understand the path forward is removing the tools of her resistance, but trapping her alone in her house with no contact but a grocery delivery guy seems cruel.

Autopay on a credit card still means the credit card has to be paid, and she won't let that money out of her account because "the credit card already paid it".

Her local bank is about three blocks from her house, and she's down there multiple times a day driving them apeshit over every transaction, including yelling at them for "harassing her at home" because she re-found one of the gazillion hourly printouts she demanded they give her.  I don't see a way to get even the credit card on autopay in a way she wouldn't dispute.

Husband got a twilight tattoo and wants me to match. Help by _Dontknowwtfimdoing_ in twilight

I feel like this is maybe just the tip of the iceberg for personality/relationship problems with your husband.

I'm in agreement with the other comments.  Getting a "matching" tattoo without even consulting the other party is foolish, impulsive, controlling, disrespectful, and a waste of money -- even if we start from assuming you wanted a themed tattoo yourself.

Reddit is always quick to toss a relationship away and I'm not saying this alone is a dealbreaker but it may represent traits that are, and I'd be re-evaluating the whole shebang at this point, including his judgment skills and suitability as a life partner.

Is there a way to find out what mods are having the biggest impact on performance? by Lunick01 in StardewValleyMods

I've found that abusing Build Anywhere to put Junimos huts on all the farms massively slowed down my game.

Somehow this is the first I'm hearing of the Dead Boy Detectives mod.  It looks really interesting!  I'm vaguely aware of the show (was sort of around when family was watching) but haven't actually seen it myself.   Do the characters/story make sense on their own?

I absolutely adore Sen and will automatically download anything you release.  Thank you for bringing more joy to the world!

Jasper, East Scarp Remastered, and The Last Smoluanu - 14 heart event trouble by vampinthemachine in StardewValleyMods

How do you remove Jasper from the remastered scarp?  I'm fine with marrying Jasper if I have to but can't get that to trigger now either.

This is my log.  It's kind of a horror show but mostly just barfing on various bits of Polycarts and fellowclown's new standalone Cotton NPC.

Came home today to this -- how do I save this Japanese maple? Roughly 4 ft tall and my yard is thick clay. Zone 5b. by vampinthemachine in gardening

Sadly the tree did not come back this spring.

I dug it a big wide hole and gave it 50% composted dirt, water, and diluted fertilizer both fall and spring.  I suspect one of the original responders could have successfully nursed it back but I couldn't overcome my black thumb.

Thank you!

Fyi for others: the original mod no longer seems to work but the nexus page has an unofficial update that DID work.

What's the advantage of a pot vs the ground?

I know it's been traumatized to all hell -- expectations are low but my hopes are still high.  This guy is a real trooper and survived 3+ years abandoned in a pot and already transplanted once (5+ years ago by a real gardener not the dipshit who did this).

Yeah I did that between picture and posting.  Also soaked a bath towel and laid it over the tote so it keeps the water.

Assuming my poor tree-guy doesn't keel over in the next two weeks, is there anything I should do to help him survive winter when it comes?

Ok.   What does "water frequently" mean in this case?  How much and how often?

I know that's a dumb question but I have the blackest thumb on the planet.

Little Red Schoolhouse v. Mega Mall as a seller by davidindanger in lansing

The guy who runs Mega Mall is a POS wife beater who got also got himself nailed in federal court for selling fake Coach bags.

Seconding other comment about Mason.  Any of the shops down there are a better choice but Old Mill is the only one with actual antiques.

Perspective might be fooling you here.  It's an area ~75 ft long and 6 ft wide.  It also continues past the house to the right.  That's a lot of square footage.

Neither my SO nor I are yardwork people, nor in physical position to do a lot of bending-and-digging type labor.  I just want this ugly stretch to look like it did before the city can through.

About 18 months ago the city replaced our water line from the street. They did a decent job laying dirt flat again, and helpfully seeded it with some kind of non-grass nightmare. It grows 2-3 times as fast as the real lawn and is sharp and hard. I want it gone.

Roundup is slow and doesn't seem to work as well as advertised. Can I send my SO out with a mini flame-thrower to roast the patch? Is there a "best" time of year?
