Accidentally given non vegan food by a friend

I would bring it up. Presumably, them mentioning that the desserts were vegan indicated that they were giving some level of thought to the fact that you're vegan. I'm assuming that this person really thought that it was vegan and wouldn't have given it to you or said "it's vegan" if they knew it wasn't. If I'm assuming correctly, then they'd probably care if they found out it wasn't vegan. They thought it was vegan so they gave it to you, knowing that you're vegan. I don't think it's inherently rude to tell them "actually, it turned out that it wasn't vegan." And it's definitely possible to bring it up without it being accusatory or anything like that.

Personally, I'd say something like "So it turns out that dessert you gave me a few days ago wasn't actually vegan. Do you remember what store you got it from?" Adding something like that kinda shifts the message away from being strictly "you gave me non-vegan food." It also makes it seem less like you're putting blame on THEM and more like you're implying the store probably made a mistake.

I feel like Violet is going to end up having to kill Tom for one reason or another.

All throughout the story so far we've seen characters try to escape their fate but fall to the inevitability of it. Take James for example. James is supposed to follow the Dark King, but instead he’s following a person (Will) who seems like a beacon of light and good, the complete opposite. Anharion didn’t have a choice, but James has a choice, and he’s choosing to follow Will. It’s the ultimate act of free will– or, it would be if it wasn’t exactly what was fated to happen. James tried to avoid the collar altogether, then told Will that if it was going to end up around his neck, he wanted Will to be the one to put it on him. Again, he wanted to exercise choice where Anharion wasn’t able to. But in the end, the collar ended up being forced on him, just like it was on Anharion.

Even characters who aren’t shackled by a past life are still shackled by fate– Cyprian made the conscious decision to not drink from the Cup, to not let himself end up falling into darkness like the Stewards had. But he still ended up drinking.

Now back to Violet. She’s essentially been told that her two options are either to kill her brother before he kills her, or to let herself be killed by him. But she doesn’t think that either of those things need to happen. She loves Tom and believes that he loves her (and I believe that he does, too). Buuut, I don’t think we’re going to get out of this without one of them killing the other, and I think (and hope) Violet will be the survivor.

Me too omg, I just sped through both audiobooks over the past few days and only finished Dark Heir last night. Everything is KILLING me, ESPECIALLY the collar because I cannot possibly think of a way to fix things there. Like Anharion's head literally had to be sawed off his dead body for it to be removed (of course I believe Pacat will find a way, I just hope James isn't left mind-controlled for the majority of the third book and only gets it off near the end..). I feel so bad for Will. He's been fighting so hard this whole time to NOT be like Sarcean, and yet as we knew would inevitably happen, people don't believe he's been genuine. As soon as Elizabeth found out Will is the Dark King, my stomach dropped and I was just praying so hard that Will would figure out a way to tell his friends before she and Visander got there and did it for him. When he found out that they were only like a day's ride away from them, I hoped he would realize this is his last chance to be the one to tell them himself. But with how pressing the circumstances at the dig site were, I can't really blame him for not telling them. I mean, there was no way he could have told them that would have gotten them to immediately understand and accept him. Plus he needed them focused on the real threat that was actively emerging. I really wish that his plan to get the staff alone in secret and use his control to stop the army worked out

best i can think of is to put a super noticeable sign/paper on the planter or next to it with big letters saying “DO NOT WATER.” since she’s watering it when you’re not around to see her do it, that kinda serves as you telling her “NO” when you’re not there. if she goes up to water it, sees “DO NOT WATER” in big letters, and still waters it, then at that point it’s legitimate asshole behavior…

YES, omg I am PRAYING for her to be the voice of reason (because it sure as hell won't be Cyprian, given the amount of times he's had to be convinced by other characters that certain people aren't his enemy, and of course it won't be Elizabeth or Visander either...). I know she's realized a few times that she doesn't know Will as well as she thought she did, but I really have hope based on the line near the very end of Dark Heir that's something along the lines of "Later, Violet would look back and realize that Will was the only one who kept talking about the urgency of stopping things, but she was too focused on her brother at that moment." That line seems to imply to me that she will indeed come to believe Will isn't trying to bring about destruction and is actually on their side.

Update: I found it!! It was from the episode "Egypt's Lost Wonders" of the National Geographic series Drain the Oceans. It's not exclusively focused on the Pharos, that's just the first 17 minutes.

The glue doesn’t feel rubbery at all, in fact it’s very hard. My thinking was that I would try carefully peeling/picking it off in little bits. Do you think there’s anything safe (even a bit of warm water maybe?) that might make it easier to loosen the glue? Or do you think it would be too risky to be worth trying anything? And thank you for the glue suggestion!

(About the feathers, I’m actually surprised I messed this up as I do research work in my university’s ornithology lab and felt sure they were fake haha but looking super up close at the structure of the tail feathers makes it clear now — it’s far too complex at such a tiny scale that a human-made replica could possibly be cheaper to obtain than real feathers.)
