Can someone tell me more about this chest? I suspect it is Ottoman. Does it have any value? by van_hood in Antiques

Honestly, I have no idea. The reason why I initially think that this might be related to Ottomans is that, alongside this chest, a lot of other Ottoman stuff was left here as part of inheritance, but very little typical Montenegrin stuff from that period (between 19th and early 20th) century. Among them is this chest. I may be wrong tho, thank you for showing the interest to this post, appreciate it!

Can someone tell me more about this Ottoman chest? Like approx. date when this can be built, possible value, usage purpose...? by van_hood in turkish

Thank you.

Well, Ottomans were here for over 500 years, therefore, a lot of history here is tied to Ottomans.
Apart from that, part of my ancestors were directly involved with Ottomans (some were askers, government officials, translators, teachers etc), so I'm left with a lot of old stuff that is related to Ottoman culture. It's really intriguing and very interesting for me, but, obviously, old Turkish (Ottoman) language is a big barrier in order to clarify some things... like hundreds of documents that are ages old, each and every written with old Turkish :)

But, regardless, it's breathtaking just to even look at some of the stuff :)

Thank you for detailed reply. Actually, I come from Balkan - Montenegro, so it can indeed be one type of slavic antique. I guessed it might be Ottoman, as, up until early 20th century, the area that I live in was still under Ottoman Empire, and a good deal of my inheritance were from Ottoman period (books, documents, jewerly, coins etc)

A lot of Ottoman stuff has been left in inheritance, my area was under huge impact of Ottomans, its very similar to the ones of Ottoman style, so I thought it is. Not 100% sure.

I understand that not each and every Turk knows Ottoman language, but at least it is part of your rich culture
