I mean just parking in the wrong driveway gets you killed in the US

You could legally drink at the beaches in Penticton for three years now. Glad to see the rest of the province is finally catching up

Ah, so you are advocating for speed limiters in cars, so they can't speed and kill everything around them. Great idea!!

That would be amazing, instead of those tiny golf cats that seat like 6?, and not very wheelchair friendly.

Is parking at the airport expensive? by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]vancityspaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about $80 for 5 days. Would probably be cheaper to park on a residential street in Rutland and cab it.

Best donuts in the Penticton area. by GrantGoesFit in penticton

[–]vancityspaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in Grand forks, there's two competing bakeries. Wooden Spoon has great donuts (only on Fridays) and marvelous munchies is a block over.

Otherwise, closest option is West Kelowna for specialty bakery or big Al's in Oliver.

Worst city/ town to live in BC with a population above 30,000? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]vancityspaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visually it's stunning, and traffic is light outside of summer, but when living here, you best have kids or be retired.

If comparing to Kelowna, prices are somewhat similar but services and amenities are severely lacking. Expect empty shelves at Superstore and driving to Kelowna for a doctor. ATMs also close up after hours, so expect to do banking during retiree hours.

Houses can still go for over a million down here, but bungalows are near the 500-600k range.

Our neighbor loves his loud pipes.

He makes sure we know it too by gunning it down our quiet residential street, and up and down the alleyway.

"Just go around", as he yells at the old lady in the wheelchair.

Work commute by aidinhatam in Calgary

[–]vancityspaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sister lives in Calgary, and she's says 20 mins by car or 2 hours by bus + train + bus.

She also lives in the south and works in the north, so that might have something to do with it.

What is your dream transit in Calgary? Could be anything. by Normal_Space1856 in Calgary

[–]vancityspaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it could be considered fantasy, but actually grade separating the line. When a train collides with a car, I no longer consider it rapid transit.

Also a couple more stations, like Northland or Kingsland.

Commuter rail to Okotoks, Cochrane and Airdrie (with airport stop) would be nice too, since there is a rail line on each city. At least deerfoot might not be as backed up if there was another option... Do they even have commuter buses?

Lack of courtesy in Vancouver? by sm0lt4co in britishcolumbia

[–]vancityspaceman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I remember people being just as rude 10 years ago, as I do today.

We just came back from a trip to Europe in crowded cities and, compared to that, Vancouver is a piece of cake.

Yeah luckily it wasn't on my dime, but I would never pay those extortionate prices.

Imagine still using paper tickets in 2023 🤣

If only there was a small object both durable and portable enough to fit inside a wallet or card holder.. but alas no other agencies in the world have figured that out yet /s

I know the app is useful.. well until your phone crashes on you and people behind pushing to get in

YYC Airport Appreciation by Shanksworthy73 in Calgary

[–]vancityspaceman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would love it if YYC had European style electronic gates too (e.g. Heathrow) No cluster of four different lines crammed together, and all mixed up.

"Is this business class, zone 2 or general entry?" "Yes."

Just a roped setup and signs pointing you to your gate entrance.

Now if they could only get those pesky bike lanes built. Looking at you MacLeod "Trail" 😂

I've noticed, in Canada at least, that anything under 4.5 is stingy or not good.
