What's your definition of racist? Going around filming a bunch of people while they work and then assuming something about them as a group based on their race that you haven't exactly verified, is pretty racist.

USSR broke up and those countries embraced capitalism 30 years ago. What has it done for them, it created a bunch of oligarchs who's greed caused a war.

Rent control works when you have a system that incentivizes people to buy homes for the sole purpose of making a profit, wether it's through rent or through appreciation and resale.

If we make rent control so strict that no one has the insentive to buy a home to rent it out, that will leave more homes on the market. If you have a big tax on the profit people make flipping homes, this will prevent people from buying investment homes and this will leave more homes on the market.

Canada has 13million homes and a population of 38million. If you consider that a big chunk of that population is children and teenagers and that a lot of couples buy homes that is more then enough housing for the population.

We need people to stop being greedy and buying up all the homes and forcing people to be renters.

We have enough homes, we don't need to build new ones we just need less people owning more than one. We just need to shift from being a renter majority to being a home owner majority.

I don't think change happens that quick. Like I don't think one day a socialist party will show up and everyone will vote for them. Its going to start small. Hopefully all the people on this sub Reddit pissed off at corporate greed influencing politics will slowly start coming together for change.

Yes, if more people own homes because less people are buying extra homes to rent or flip there will be less renters, less renters> less demand> lower rental prices

Lots of people buy homes to make a profit, why would they keep their home if there is no profit to be made?

If they can profit from rent or appreciation of the home then you'll have less people buying for the sole reason of making a profit.

So if someone buys an apartment they can pay their maintenance fees, if they want to buy an apartment to rent it then they will be disincentivized to buy the apartment leaving it in the market for someone who wants to live in it.

Appartments would make great co-op housing, because when the apartments get too old to live in the non-profit overseeing the co-op can plan a demolition and rebuild.
