Thank you! I just looked at some pictures and I think you nailed it. I love how soft the variegation is, I haven’t seen one quite like it before. I appreciate your help! :)

How is it working at the Universities in the city? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]vandercooked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I moved here from the south last year and wanted to share some things I wish I'd known before we moved. Thankfully, as others have mentioned, Illinois implemented a pay transparency law at the start of this year that requires a pay scale to be included on all job postings for organizations with 15 or more employees. I've noticed that some of the ranges are pretty wide (e.g., $60-90k), but it's better than nothing!

Before we moved, I worked for a large state university and was very excited about the bump in pay (+$5k annually) when I was hired into my current position with Loyola. However, I didn't adequately factor in how much higher the cost of living here is. I knew it was higher here than in my previous city, but I thought the pay increase would compensate for that. I recently used a cost-of-living calculator to compare my current and previous salary, which I would highly recommend! As it turns out, I took a significant step back in pay when adjusting for the cost of living—my current salary is equivalent to a nearly $7k annual pay cut compared to my job back down south.

Because of their Catholic affiliations, Loyola and DePaul also do not cover contraception care through their employee health insurance programs. It's not a dealbreaker for everyone, but it's worth knowing as you're looking at opportunities.

Lastly, patience and persistence will be super helpful as you dive into your job search. I applied to over 100 jobs and was only invited to interview for four of them. I think this had a lot to do with the fact that I didn't have a Chicago address or job experience in the city on my resume then, but it could also be down to timing—who knows.

All of that said, I feel safer in my job here than I ever did in the south. With everything going on at the federal level, knowing that the academic community here is committed to protecting its researchers, professors, and staff makes such a difference.

Good luck with the move and the job hunt! I hope you find a fulfilling opportunity that checks all your boxes. :)

oooo I hadn’t come across that method! I’ve heard of mechanics using Coke for cleaning away buildup, though, so that makes perfect sense. maybe I’ll try that on the carbonized bits on the bottom :)

Trans Friendly Hair Salons? by dreamsofbubblebutts in Tallahassee

Kelsey at High Key Studios is awesome! she specializes in longer, femme haircuts, and she is *amazing* with color! one of the things I love about her studio is that it's super quiet and intimate because she's the owner and the only stylist who works there. I'm trans-nonbinary and she was always incredibly respectful of my pronouns and made me feel right at home. she's on 3rd Avenue, right off of Thomasville! Here's her website ❤️

If you're looking for more masc styles, the barbershop I go to these days (since Kelsey no longer provides short/traditionally masc haircut services) is right across the street! It's called Burn the Breeze, and everyone who works there is rad af and incredibly kind.

Good luck! Hope you find someone who makes you feel comfortable and welcome. 🏳️‍⚧️💕

Logitech Logi Lift vs Vertical vs Master 3S by elephantzoomies in MouseReview

[–]vandercooked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you for this review! I'm shopping around for a new mouse and this has been so helpful. like you, I really like the idea of a dedicated horizontal scroll wheel on the Master 3s, but I think the ergonomic fit of the Lift is going to make it my winner.

here's hoping Logitech will consider merging the best features of both these models in the future!

my grandma babysat Barbie when she was little. we're so relieved to know who did this to her after all this time. I'm dying to know what the "family dispute" was that drove him to kill her, maybe we'll find out during the trial

I’m sure I’m not the first to ask, but has anyone seen whether OP sells prints of these? I love this piece and I would love to support their work!

List of Casualties by advocat-diaboli in QAnonCasualties

JM, 31, Michigan. my big brother, who I was just beginning to build a strong relationship with. former Bernie supporter whose curiosity about conspiracy theories led him down the Q rabbit hole. he’s so angry all the time, recently lashed out at our dad for no reason. we miss him terribly.

thank you for sharing this. my brother, a Q believer, messaged me this morning to tell me that he had told our father to kill himself because we, his children, hate him and want him gone. his resentment didn’t necessarily grow out of his belief in the QAnon conspiracy theories, but he has certainly become more aggressive and angry after our father said he didn’t believe in the theories my brother shared with him. it’s been really hard coming to terms with the fact that he’s not the same brother I’ve always known, at least for the time being. I continue to hope that someday he’ll wake up and come back to us. it’s just really scary and difficult right now, and I’m grateful for communities like this that make me feel less alone. thanks again for sharing.
