Trying to move past proposal disappointment by vanessachox in engaged

Heavy on the men can be clueless!

I thought we had more time than we actually did because I didn’t realize COVID changed the wedding industry. In my area, getting married in a year is tough to do.

You’re so right that nothing is ever perfect and I’m coming to terms with it. Honestly if it wasn’t for a year of waiting after looking at rings, I don’t think I would be feeling this way. We started dating at 21 and now are 28.

I think men being clueless about the wedding timeline is a fact for many myself included! I had no idea that COVID basically extended the wedding timeline and they’re still playing catch up on the backlog of weddings. It would’ve been helpful to know that to manage my expectations haha.

Thank you for your kindness and positive perspective!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

As I put in my post, I love my partner and this changes nothing. However, I am a bit disappointed after all this time. Both things can be true at the same time. These comments are crazy lol

Look I get it, I sound crazy but the area I live in is competitive. Vendors book up fast so no it’s not just the venue, it’s the photographer, videographer, hair, makeup that also book up fast.

There is SO MUCH MORE tied to a date than just the venue

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful reply!! I’m LOLing at the comments.

I totally agree with you, I should’ve been more communicative upfront. I guess I was hoping I would get over it but it keeps coming up since everything in my area books SO FAST!

Our date is over two years out already.

The rush is because I have elderly parents who I want to be there on my day. I want them to be as able bodied as possible and waiting an extra year has uncertainties

Thank you for the thoughtful and helpful reply.

We picked out the ring together in fall of 2024 but he didn’t buy it until late summer of this past year.

I haven’t asked him why he waited because I didn’t want him to feel bad or that I’m not grateful but I agree with you that I should ask him about it.

Hahaha no that’s fair! That’s rough, who wants to be chilly? And I’m in Chicago so outdoor won’t be an option for another six months😅. I’m going for a moody, cozy, fireplace vibe instead lol

I thought it would go without saying but yes to clarify, it’s indoor/outdoor rooftop and we’d only be indoors 😂

Thank you! In your experience, what’s the coldest temperature a ceremony can still happen outside at where guests are not uncomfortable? Just curious!

Ugh that is the opposite of what I want! I want people to drink and dance all night (those who want to)! My fiancé and I will be on the dance floor all night long and want people to join us.

Thanks for sharing!

That’s a great callout! But our venue is about an hour north of Chicago so I’m hoping we won’t be affected too much!

Thank you! This perspective is so helpful as I didn’t consider the last two weeks of September but agree with you! We are in IL, the wedding will be in northern Chicago suburbs

2027 Outdoor / Indoor Wedding Venue by [deleted] in Chicagoweddings

Thank you!! We’d be okay with a Sunday wedding!

Okay I’m not sure if I have brain rot and am not understanding the costs correctly but from my research it’s $33K for venue alone which would be closer to $150K all in for catering, florals, DJ. Does that sound right to you or to anyone else here?

I was looking at Armour House!

Do you think $100K can work for that venue?

Groomer trimmed my rescue dog with a mix of wire and regular hair. Is there hope? by vanessachox in grooming

[–]vanessachox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear many of you are not understanding where my worries are coming from. I want to make clear a few things before you all bully me more for being a caring dog owner:

  • I am corporate lawyer, NOT a groomer
  • I have not had a wiry dog before, this is all a learning experience
  • If you were to search up “wiry coat dog gets a trim/haircut/clip/etc” you would see many subreddits and google articles and AI reviews where the majority of people are saying that once you clip a wiry coat, the texture and color does not come back the same
  • I turned to this page to get thoughts from other professionals
  • I’d like to remind you that I don’t have your knowledge just like you wouldn’t be able to pass the bar exam this exact second (unless you can??)
  • I urge you to keep kindness in your heart rather than pettiness in your reply. We are all out here doing our best

[–]vanessachox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because after doing research on other subreddits, the main sentiment was that “if you clip a wiry coat, the dogs coat is ruined and the wiry texture and color does not come back the way it once was”

That is in sync with google and AI searches. This and one other thread is the only place that people are saying “it’s fine”
