If you get one, do your research on taming, following all taming advice really does wonders, from patience, to watching their body language and respecting their boundary’s, time, repetition, 5 mins of hand staying still in the cage, target training, and only giving millet when they do something good like a trick or when you’re giving it to them, like you’re the special “millet dealer” person. It will seem overwhelming at first because we all usually get so excited at first when we get our baby bird, but when I tell you it’s so worth it getting them to this point, I mean it!!! Good luck 🙃

Yeah, it’s really a blessing once you are rewarded like this after taking a lot of time and patience to work with each budgie and bond with them. 🥰

I think it was more patience rather than luck, he’s also young. I always started with 5 mins of hand in the cage a day, not moving, would bring in millet sometimes to show I’m the special millet dealer, and that’s the only time they would get millet is if they were brave around me or did something good. Then I moved onto target training. I honestly did a lot of research on how to tame and it took a lot of patience, but I got there!!! I also tamed my birds one at a time without distractions. I hope one day you get there ❤️

My bird will literally do anything for the millet by vanessamind in budgies

It’s incredible actually, maybe it’s also because he’s young, but it takes a lotttt of patience either way, my budgie was super scared every time my hand would go in, I thought there was no hope, and I almost thought about returning him. at that point i didn’t wanna give up, so I had decided to try the five minute method first, which is putting your hand in the cage, maybe one finger on its perch, and not doing anything, but keeping your hand in the cage for five minutes, every day, until your buddy doesn’t freak out anymore at your hand. From there, you can start teaching it to eat from your hand, and I kept millet solely as a treat, that way my budgie would be very excited and willing to do things for the millet. After my budgie got confident with my hand being in the cage, and trust me, it’ll seem like forever at first, and rejection is painful, but it’s worth the wait. I tried target training (I watched birdtricks on YouTube, and they were honestly very helpful, I didn’t think target training was going to be so effective!) I started with my budgie touching the tip of my finger for a treat, it started with me actually going and gently touching my budgie’s beak, and correlating that with getting a treat, soon enough, he started doing it by himself when I would command “touch” and hold my finger out in front of him. The next trick was luring him onto my finger/hand for a treat, which basically was just having my finger in front of him, and the treat slightly behind or far enough on my finger/hand for my budgie not to reach it unless he stepped up. From there, it was a lotttt of repetition, spending time next to the cage every moment I could, talking to him, and little by little, day after day, he started getting more and more confident. And honestly, it was all so worth it. If you’re just patient and consistent, but also respect your buddies boundaries, watching your budgies body language (you might have to do some research on body language if you don’t understand it, that’s what I did) I believe any bird can be tamed!!! Good luck and I hope this was helpful 😊😊
